Impacts of electricity on female labor market outcomes and household income growth in Cambodia

本研究は、途上国における雇用の大部分を占めるインフォーマル経済（政府の監督や国家の登録外で行う非公式経済活動）のフォーマル化を促す要因を解明することで、途上国の持続的な経済開発と貧困削減のプロセスを解明し、国連の持続的開発目標(SDGs) が掲げる質の高い雇用の促進（目標8)、及びジェンダー平等（目標5)に貢献することを大きな目的とする。具体的には、電化（政府が提供する公的な電気にアクセス可能となること）に着目し、電化がフォーマル雇用への移行、及び家計の厚生（家計所得、児童労働、及び子供の教育）に与える影響について実証的に分析する。具体的には、以下3点の実証分析を行う。
(1) 電化が生産年齢人口（15 ～58 歳）の雇用（フォーマル雇用（賃金労働）、及びインフォーマル雇用（自営業、無償家族労働））に与える影響、(2) 電化が家計所得に与える影響、(3) 電化が子供(7 ～14 歳)の労働、及び教育に与える影響
当該年度は、適切な操作変数の選定、分析に必要なデータの購入（Cambodia Socio-Economic Survey data 2017)、(1)～(3)における追加的な記述統計分析、操作変数法を用いた推計、及び博士論文の執筆を行なった。地理情報データを用い、外生的に決まるとされる地理的な変数を操作変数として利用するのは、カンボジアの貧困削減の文脈では初めての試みである。上記の点を評価され、2020年10月に実施した博士論文審査会では、5段階の内、最高評価を獲得した。博士論文審査会で受領したコメントを反映した上で、博士論文の最終版を10月28日に提出済みである。尚、上記(1)～(3)の研究成果は、11月の開発経済学会若手会議にて発表済みである。現在は、学会で受領したコメントを踏まえ、(1)及び(2)の研究成果を国際ジャーナル紙に投稿する為の準備を進めている。
