英語, 研究論文（学術雑誌）,本研究は、生活目標、理想の家庭、理想のワーク・レジャーバランスといった観点から、日本人の「夢」に焦点を当てつつ彼らの価値観変容を検討する。経済発展を文化や基底的な価値観の形成を突き動かす動力として捉えるならば、第二次世界大戦以降浮き沈みを経験してきた日本経済の力学にともない、日本人の価値志向においてもまた変化の過程があったと考えられよう。1973 年から2008 年にかけてNHK が実施してきた「日本人の意識調査」を用いて分析を行ったところ、高度経済成長期に主流とされていた中流階級の夢から、若いコウホートが徐々に解放されつつあるという傾向が認められた。簡略にまとめるならば、①生活目標については、計画をたてて豊かな生活を築くことや、世の中をよくするといった志向性が後退しつつある一方、自由に楽しく過ごしたり身近な人たちとなごやかな毎日を送るといった志向性が台頭しつつある。②仕事へと置かれていた重点が余暇に取って代わられつつある。③家父長的な夫婦関係や性別役割分業意識への支持が失われ、夫婦の自立や家庭内協力が支持を受けるようになった、という傾向が確認された。

Between 1987 and 2013, thepercentage of population considered elderly rose from 7%in 1987 to 14%, indicating the city isjoining the ranks of the ageing societies. Together with increasing quality of health care servicesand openness to the discussion of death in society,End of Life(EOL) services are not only usedby terminally or chronically ill patients,but have also begun to attract many old people in goodstate of health who wish to prepare for 'a good death'in advance. This paper studies thisrelatively new form of elderly service―EOL services for the healthy elderly in Hong Kong byusing a case study of Ning-An Scheme. It aims to answer these questions:how has EOL servicesdeveloped in Hong Kong? Why EOL services have become increasingly important in HongKong? What are the characteristic of Ning-An Scheme and their users? Based on statistics fromthe government and Caritas Hong Kong, as well as interview with staffs and users, the authorargues that EOL services like Ning-An Scheme can be important resources for the elderly,especially the one-person/couples-only households and the economically challenged. They offersupports to help elder participants embrace their life's final journey positively and gain a senseof well-being. - The Impact of Parents’ Religious Affiliation on Children’s Educational Attainment in Taiwan

英語, 研究論文（大学，研究機関等紀要）, This paper examines the effects of parents'religious affiliation on respondents'educationalattainment in contemporary Taiwan. Data comes from religion module of 1999 TaiwanSocial Change Survey. Controlling for various socio-demographic variables including ethnicity,occupational status of fathers, and educational attainment of parents, OLS regressionanalyses showed that educational attainment is significantly affected by the religious affiliation ofparents. Clearer differences were found among Eastern religion such as folk religion andTaoism. These results imply that traditional religiosities maybe one of the important determinantsof educational disparities in contemporary Taiwan. - 香港社会における高齢化とキリスト教団体による高齢者福祉―ソーシャル・キャピタルの視点から

Between 1987 and 2013, the percentage of the population considered elderly rose from 7% to 14%, indicating that the city is joining the ranks of the ageing societies. As an important component of society, the role of religion in responding to the challenges of population ageing cannot be ignored. However, we lack sufficient empirical studies on the role of religion in enhancing the well-being of old people in Hong Kong and the mechanisms involved in such processes. Based on a case study of Yiguan Dao and interviews with 14 elder members, this paper argues that religion is an important key to the subjective well-being of elders. It suggests that Yiguan Dao can be an effective resource for coping with the fear of death, as well as providing divine protection, a sense of purpose, and opportunities for social participation for elderly members. This paper contributes to the studies of the relationship between religion and SWB, especially in Chinese societies.香港の高齢化率は1987 年から2013 年の間に7%から14%に上昇し、香港は高齢化時代に突入した。宗教が高齢化社会において果たす役割は無視できないが、香港の高齢者における、宗教と主観的ウェルビーイングの関連は十分に論じられていない。本稿では香港の一貫道の14 人の高齢信徒へのインタビュー調査からこのテーマを論じる。対象者の語りからは、一貫道は高齢信徒にとって1）死への恐れに対するコーピング機能、2）神仏による守護感覚、3）生き甲斐、4）社会参加の機会を提供する機能をもつ可能性が示唆された。この結果は、宗教とSWB、特に華人系宗教と華人社会における高齢者のSWB の研究に貢献するものである。 - Religious Affiliations and Social Stratification in Taiwan (2000-2010): Analysis of Taiwan Social Change Survey

英語, 研究論文（大学，研究機関等紀要）, Religion and social stratification has been an important sociological topic since MaxWeber and Karl Marx. It continues to attract scholarly attention nowadays in the United States,giving rise to numerous empirical studies on their complex relationships. However, there is noor inadequate studies on the relations between religion and social stratification in societies that have very different cultural backgrounds compared to the U.S. This research note attempts to expand this sociological topic to non-Christian societies using Taiwan as a case study, where Christianity is not the dominant culture. It first offers a literature review of religion and social stratification in Taiwan, followed by a quantitative study based on a national survey, Taiwan Social Change Survey. Analysis is based on the data from the 2000, 2005, and 2010 dataset. This research note focuses on three important social stratification indicators, namely education level, occupation, and income, and their effects on religious affiliation. Changes in such relations over ten years are also studied. Our analysis has at least five significant findings: (1) respondents belonging to "Protestantism" and "No Religion" tend to be in the upper class. (2) Except for "Protestantism" and "No Religion," religious affiliation is affected by different social stratification indicators and such effect is particular strong for "Buddhism," "Taoism," and "Folk religion." While (3) "Catholics" have declining score in occupation and income level, (4) "Buddhists" are achieving higher status in occupation. (5) Education, occupation, and income level are increasing for "Yiguan Dao" practitioners. - Yiguan Dao in Hong Kong: A Case Study of its Organizational Characteristics and Conversion Experiences of Adherents

英語, 研究論文（大学，研究機関等紀要）, Through extensivefieldwork in aYiguan Dao BuddhaHall located in Hong Kong,thispaper attempts to study the organizational characteristics of this Chinese religion and theconversion experiences ofits adherents. It first discusses thedevelopmental historyand featuresof this religion through textual analysis and interview. Drawing insights from Lofland andStark's model of conversion (1965), it attempts to studyhow conversion takes place in YiguanDao through analyzing the narratives of twelve Yiguan Dao practitioners in Hong Kong. Itsuggests a five-stage model to explain their conversion to Yiguan Dao that consists of (1)predisposing personal conditions;(2) developing social ties with Dao practitioners;(3) receivingDao;(4)cultivating Dao and (5)promoting Dao. In brief,social networksplayasignificant rolein the conversion process as it often takes places within family, among friends, colleagues, andneighbors. - Religion and Social Welfare in Hong Kong: An Overview

A large amount of education, medical care, and social services are provided to the general public by Christian, Buddhist, Taoist, Confucian, and folk religious organizations. While it is estimated that over 90% of social services in Hong Kong are run by NGO/NPOs (The Hong Kong Council of Social Services), religious groups make up approximately 70% of such services. How has religion become an important contributor in the social welfare system of Hong Kong? What is the historical context that gave rise to this? And what are the differences in social services provided by various religious groups in terms of quantity and types? This paper attempts to answers these questions by reviewing the role of religious groups in Hong Kong's social welfare development and the social services they offer from the perspective of organizational integrity and state-religion relation. - Religious Economy Theory Revisited: Towards a New Perspective of Religious Dynamics in the East Asian Settings

英語, 研究論文（大学，研究機関等紀要）, Originating from the American contexts, the religious economymodel has provided new insights to the study of religion in the UnitedStates using the market perspectives to explain, interpret, and predictthe dynamics of religious suppliers and consumers. And because of itsrather successful application in the American settings(i.e.a free marketof religion with relative dominance of Christianity), scholars of religionsbegan to adopt this model to study the sociology of religion ofvarious areas from a market perspective. However, this presents bothopportunities and challenges to these scholars dedicated to use thisapproach to study non-American societies where religious cultures andsocial contexts are very different. On the one hand,it provides a veryinteresting perspective to understand religious movements as marketeconomies, especially when the secularization theory has failed torespond to the revival of religion in most parts of the world (i.e.Asia,North and South America,and Africa). On the other hand,given thenature of the model,it is very difficult,if not impossible,to apply it tosocieties where the religious landscape and social and cultural backgroundsare not identical to the American context,though advocates ofthis model claim that it has the potential to develop into a "dominanttheoretical frame of reference with the social scientific study of religion"(Lawrence 1997: xii). As a piece of work dedicated to thisongoing project and debate, this paper first sets out the main tenets ofthe economic approach to the sociology of religion and the key argumentsof its leading critics. Then, by reviewing how scholars ofreligion have attempted to improve and modify this theory and appliedit on different cultural contexts,it also suggests how this model may beanalytically useful in studying religion in the East Asian settings,especially China and Japan, and discusses the modifications that mayadd value to the model by taking political, economical, social, andcultural factors into consideration. - The Development of Soka Gakkai in Hong Kong

本研究の目的は、国際宗教社会学会で近年注目されているアジアの宗教性測定という課題と社会科学において研究が拡大しているウェルビーイングに影響を与える宗教（価値意識）のあり方について東アジアの国際比較研究を行うものである。具体的には、台湾・韓国・アメリカの研究者と東アジア宗教の宗教性指標探索を行い、共通の調査票作成を行って、共同調査を行うことであり、2023年度は、パデュー大学中国研究センター所長の楊鳳崗、韓国の慶煕大学のジェーソンリョン教授、国立台湾大学のスーグオシエン教授と複数回のオンライン・ミーティングと国際ワークショップを行って、調査票作成に至った。これで2024年度の本調査までの準備が整い、年度内の予定が完了した。
それ以外では、研究代表者が東アジア宗教の研究として、韓国出自の世界平和統一家庭連合（統一教会関連団体）の問題を研究し、メディアでの発言を行い、出版活動も行った。国内外の新聞・雑誌でのインタビュー、発言要旨掲載は数十回におよび、テレビ出演は報道1930、NHKクローズアップ現代、NHKEテレこころの時代に、それぞれ4，5回ずつ出て、この問題について宗教研究者としての専門的な知見を提供した。また、国・自治体の関係機関や政党が主催した研究会などにも参加し、政治と宗教との関連、法律的規制や信教の自由についての専門的な知見も提供した。
分担研究者は、中国、韓国、台湾のそれぞれの宗教研究、また、日本における週休制意識調査の統計的分析などに従事し、相応の成果を残した。

2021年度は、新型コロナウィルス流行の影響により、国外における調査や対面的な国際会議を実施することができなかった。各メンバーは、自身の調査地を中心に、マイノリティに対する脅威の高まりと潜在的危険性、国家の対応策とその影響、NGOなどの関与等について調査を行い、その成果について主にオンラインで開催された国内外の会議や学術雑誌等で発表した。2021年9月には、国際会議New Nationalisms and Changing Patterns of Conflict（国際政治学会紛争安全保障民主化委員会と共催）を開催した。
滝澤は、現在のモンゴル国におけるエスニック・リスクとしてのナショナリズムの高まりについて、社会主義時代の粛清をめぐる歴史的言説を対象として分析を行った。特に、民族の歴史における「死者」をめぐるイメージが政治問題化され、特定の対立に結びつけられていく様態について明らかにした。
コンペルは、軍事占領下におけるエスニック・リスクに着目して文献調査を行った。日本占領における占領者と被占領者間の緊張関係やエスニシティの関係を踏まえた上で、現代アフガニスタンあるいはイラクにおける紛争と占領、さらに南アフリカにおけるエスニック・リレーションズと地域紛争・核拡張政策との関係についても調査した。比較論的観点から軍事占領下におけるエスニシティおよび軍民関係について分析した成果は、国際政治学会リスボン世界大会（オンライン開催）にて発表した。
伍は、コロナ禍の香港において、ソーシャル・スティグマ化された少数者（感染者、医療関係者、貧困層など）の現状や、ワクチン接種をめぐる香港社会の対立について考察した。特にワクチン接種の実施初期に、ワクチン支持派と反対派がお互いに批判し、相手のワクチン接種に対する態度を政治的な立場に結び付けようとする「相互スティグマ化」の現象について分析した。

採択後、半年間の研究期間で行った研究成果は下記の通りである。
①2021年9月21日に、参加者8名（伍嘉誠、樋口麻里、清水香基、櫻井義秀、シリヌット・クーチャルンパイブーン、郭莉莉、翁康健、ティラポン・クルプラントン）でオンラインの国際会議を行った。各地域で調査可能な事例について話してもらい、インターネット調査に関しては、高齢者の場合インターネット環境が得難いことと、IT機器の利用がかなり難しいために、都市部または地域を限定した郵送調査があるのではないかと指摘があった。他方で、日本の高齢者においてコロナ以降、IT機器を用いたコミュニケーションがかなりなされているという報告があり、インターネット空間において新しい居場所ができているのかどうかの確認が求められる。同時に、タイでは新型コロナ感染拡大に伴う行動制限によって高齢者が外に出ない、集会や行楽に出かけないことから認知症やフレイルなどの状況が起きていることも報告された。いずれにしても、この研究課題のもとで来年度以降調査を開始することが可能であるとの結論に達し、ある程度調査資料などをまとまってからもう一度研究会を開催することが決められた。
②中国とタイに関しては、2021年度後半において渡航が極めて困難であり、隔離期間が短縮されなかったので、翁康健（大学院生）のみが、2021年1月から3月にかけて隔離期間1ヶ月を含めて現地に滞在し、高齢者施設、寺院における老僧扶養の状況などを調査した。
③他の研究者は、新型コロナ感染拡大第五波と第六波のなかで文献研究に専念した。
