  Japanese, The difference between metaphors and similes tends to be regarded as the absence or presence of metaphorical indicators. However, we cannot explore all possible metaphorical indicators. Furthermore, we are able to define neither the types nor ranges of metaphorical indicators. There are possibilities for finding new metaphorical indicators and categorising their functions. Therefore, we explored clue phrases for the understanding of figurativity from large-scale simile examples. As a result, we found many clue phrases which have not been reported as metaphorical indicators in preceding studies. Most of the newly found clue phrases can be categorised into the expressions to differentiate between the topic and vehicle. The clue phrases are included with many simile examples. When the representative metaphorical indicators occurred in a simile expression, the clue phrases also co-occurred. The metaphorical indicators can be regarded as the degree to which the linguistically obtainable group of clue phrases in metaphorical expressions is grasped, while metaphors and similes should be a continuity of metaphorical expression with their gradations rather than two distinct sets.

  Japanese, We categorized genres and settings (e.g., "Mystery," "Science," "Adventure," "Romance," and "Historical") for all fiction works in book samples from the Balanced Corpus of Contemporary Written Japanese. To design the descriptive genre attributes, we explored the classification items of bookshops and publishers. We also newly defined the classification items by exploring characteristic words and phrases in the fiction contents. Thus, we annotated the designed classification items of genre attributes in a multi-label classification setting. The work described in this study enabled the assignment of new classification information for fiction samples in the Balanced Corpus of Contemporary Written Japanese. The genre attributes enabled us to confirm the distribution of vocabulary and stylistic features. We reported the annotation procedures and results of the classification items of the genre attributes.
• Digitization and Annotation of "A stylistic study of the figurative"

  Japanese, We digitized the National Language Research Institute Research Report "A stylistic study of the figurative" and constructed a database of figurative expressions in the Index (simile) and Combination (metaphor) systems. The database was designed to support the search for figurative expression examples in several respects. We also annotated the figurative expression classification, figurative index expressions (simile only), topic and vehicle pairs, and semantic categories with the "Word list by semantic principles," figurative combinations, and impression ratings. The annotation enabled us to explore the figurative expressions from new perspectives.

  This paper presents research on opposite information annotation on the thesaurus 'Word List by Semantic Principles (WLSP)'. The categorised words with the same label include antonym word pairs. We extract the opposite word pairs from the categorised group and classified the opposite word pairs. Firstly, the annotators manually extracted opposite word pair candidates. Secondly, we utilised Yahoo! crowdsourcing to evaluate how many people recognise the opposite word pair as the opposites. We defined 'opposites' as the words judged by greater than or equal to 50% people. Thirdly, we annotated the opposites types by Muraki for the word pairs. We analysed the opposite word lists by their asymmetry, the label of WLSP, the opposite types, their frequencies and word embeddings. In the linguistic point of view, the closed opposite word pairs tend to be regarded as 'opposites'. In the natural language processing point of view, the distances between two words in the opposite pairs correlates their replaceability of the human judge.

  Japanese, テキストに記された対象物を読み手が適切に認識するとき，どのような情報がどのような順序で提示されているのか。本稿は，実験協力者に順序を変えて対象物の特徴的情報を提示し，さまざまな条件でテキストに記述された対象物を同定する実験を行った。動物5種類計600通りのテキストを調査対象とし，クラウドソーシングを用いてのべ6,000人の実験協力者を得た。この実験の結果から，同じ情報の提示順序が異なることで読み手の対象物同定率が変化する場合，どのような情報が読み手の認識を促進もしくは阻害するのか調査した。また，情報増加と正答率の関係，誤答に至った情報提示順の分析を行うことで，提示した情報のカテゴリとプロトタイプが認識に及ぼす影響についても考察した。これらに基づき，テキストから対象物を認識するにあたって有用な情報とその効果的な提示順を提案する。The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of text information ordering on object recognition. Large-scale subject experiments were conducted via crowdsourcing wherein the participants identified all possible target objects in the provided information passages. The results indicated that target objects were easily recognized when participants successfully categorized and compared them with the surrounding information; when target objects were not easily categorized, recognition was confused by the surplus information. From these data, the following order of information presentation was found to be optimal. First, information is presented that invokes readers' general experience and leads them to imagine the category that includes the target object. At that time, the prototype of the category should be close to the target object. Second, the difference between the prototype and the target is presented to exclude other members in the category of the prototype.

  Japanese, コーパスの頻度情報は有用なデータであり，COBUILDやウィズダム英和辞典などの辞書に語や意味の重要度の指標として活用されている。ある対象物に関する様々な要素のうち重要なものは，テキストにおいて高頻度で言及されている可能性が高い。動物の身体部位語の頻度を調査したところ，ある動物において特徴的と考えられる角のような要素の頻度が高い傾向が見られた。また，対象物の有する要素とその頻度分布情報から，対象物を認識することも可能という実験結果も得られた。我々は対照する他物との差異となり得る特徴的な要素に着目し，それらが高頻度であることを期待する。しかし，高頻度であると期待される要素が，必ずしも高頻度で言及されていない場合がある。たとえば，それぞれ馬と人との差異として角を有するユニコーンと鬼を見ると，ユニコーンの角は期待通りの高頻度で言及されるが，鬼の角は頻度が低い。期待される頻度と実頻度に差の生じる一因は，用例において比喩表現に現れていた。外観上特徴的な要素は，形状を表す喩辞として用いられる傾向がある。ゆえに，固定的なイメージがない場合には比喩表現として用いられにくい。また，対照されやすい他動物が被喩辞となる比喩表現では，差異となる要素こそあえて言及する必要がない。このように，特徴的な要素と用例頻度の関係には，比喩表現のような表現形式が関わるため，頻度情報を用いる際には考慮が必要である。Many dictionaries, such as the Collins COBUILD English language dictionary and WISDOM English-Japanese Dictionary, use corpus frequency data as the basis for determining the importance of words or word meanings. Based on the corpus frequency data, we assume that the most characteristic elements of an object tend to be mentioned frequently in corpora. In this study, we investigated the use of words that describe animal body parts and their frequencies. If the characteristic attribute of a target animal has a high frequency in the corpora, we would be able to guess the target animal. For example, we expected tsuno 'horn,' a word that distinguishes one animal type from another, to be used frequently. In the case of unicorns, we found that its horn was mentioned frequently, as it distinguishes a unicorn from a horse. However, the horns of oni 'devil' were mentioned less frequently, even though it is a feature that distinguishes oni from human beings. Upon analysis of the corpora, it was revealed that oni are often used as metaphors for human beings. By contrast, unicorns are not used as metaphors for horses. Moreover, oni horns do not have the fixed image that unicorn horns do as a metaphor for its form. Our results lead to the conclusion that the tendency for the most characteristic feature of an object not to be mentioned is the effect of metaphors.

Some users have pointed out some issues concerning sentence delimitation in the BCCWJ. To address these issues, we - NINJAL - performed a complete survey and correction, beginning in 2013 and ending in 2014. This article reports the revision work on sentence delimitation in the BCCWJ. The problems with the BCCWJ DVD Version 1.0 derive from the string-based definition. We could not obtain any morpheme information for the sentence delimitation task because of the task parallelism between sentence delimitation annotation and morpheme annotation. The method used this time was morpheme based. We present the morpheme-based annotation guidelines, annotation environment, and basic statistics of the corpus correction.
• Encyclopaedic Descriptions That are Useful for Identifying Entities: A Case Study of Descriptions of Animals

  Japanese, This paper reports what features of encyclopaedic descriptions are useful for recognising entities based on the results of three experiments on target object identification from texts. We used gloss descriptions of animals compiled from dictionaries (Experiment 1), texts with additional information not found in the dictionaries (Experiment 2), and usages acquired from corpora (Balanced Corpus of Contemporary Written Japanese, Google Japanese N-grams; Experiment 3). In all three experiments, the percentage of the entities which could be identified correctly from texts was only about half. Therefore, we conclude that it is difficult to recognise an entity based on its description in a text. The results of the three experiments suggest that the following information is important for the identification of the target: specific features selected based on participants' personal experiences and information that would distinguish the target animals from other members in the ad hoc categories were important for identification of the target. When readers have knowledge about the target entities, individual or general experience and knowledge are easily obtained from corpora, as the actual texts are useful for readers' recognition. In contrast, when readers have insufficient knowledge about the target entities, a description of the features that distinguish the target from the prototype of the superordinate category (ad hoc category) is useful.

  Japanese, 本稿では単一文書自動要約の新たな展開について言語資源と評価指標の観点から検討する.まず,最初に語順に対する順序尺度を含めた距離空間・類似度・相関係数・カーネルにより既存の自動評価指標の整理を行い,現在ある言語資源を用いてその指標空間の性質を明らかにする.次に自動要約の評価として必要な軸として,提供すべき情報の過不足と読みやすさの二つを考える.情報の過不足については,元文書の情報構造を言語生産者・言語受容者の双方の観点から分析し,システム要約・参照要約双方の情報の質を検討する.読みやすさについては,生成されたテキストの読み時間に基づいた定量的な評価方法について検討する.最後に語順・情報構造・読み時間の関係性について解説し,読み時間を用いた言語受容者毎の要約作成の可能性について議論する.
• Addressive Expressions in Written Japanese

  Japanese, In this paper, we report the characteristics of the writing style called "addressing the reader" found in books. For this study, we used the Library Sub-corpus contained in the Balanced Corpus of Contemporary Written Japanese (BCCWJ). In performing a stylistic analysis of the corpus, we used the information annotated in the corpus and the comments of the annotators (namely, readers), as well as the word frequencies and contextual connections between words. We found that the "addressive" style is more common in texts written in a casual style, such as essays and blogs, and contains phrases used to address readers directly or ask them questions (as if the writer and the readers are having a dialogue). In books, however, this writing style can be found in instructive texts, mainly in so-called how-to or enlightening books. Therefore, expressions that readers intuitively consider "addressive" in nature are not always encountered in these texts. In this paper, we will show that when readers find that the text is "addressing" them, they are influenced by context-dependent expressions and their own presuppositions as participants.

  Japanese, In 2011, the National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics launched a corpus compilation project with the aim of constructing a ten-billion-word Web corpus. The project was split into the following four sub-projects: page collection, linguistic annotation, release, and preservation. During the page collection stage, crawling began during the fourth quarter of 2012. We crawled 100 million URLs every three months as fixed-point observations. During the linguistic annotation, normalization (HTML tag removal and character encoding conversion), Japanese morphological analysis (word segmentation and part-of-speech tagging), and Japanese dependency analysis were performed on the data that were crawled in the timespan of one year, specifically from the fourth quarter of 2012 to the third quarter of 2013. In this paper, we present the basic statistics of the crawled data and discuss possible theoretical and practical implications of the language resources. Additionally, we address issues encountered during the page collection and linguistic annotation stages, and offer tentative solutions.

  会議名: 言語資源活用ワークショップ2018, 開催地: 国立国語研究所, 会期: 2018年9月4日-5日, 主催: 国立国語研究所 コーパス開発センター現在，『現代日本語書き言葉均衡コーパス』に含まれる書籍サンプルに付与された日本十進分類法（NDC）分類記号に，補助分類を拡張する作業を進めている。国立国会図書館のNDC情報（8版・9版）を参照し，人手によって補助分類の確認と追加を行う。本発表は，現在までに作業の完了した図書館サブコーパス10,551サンプルについて，情報付与作業方法とその結果を報告する。本作業により，たとえば形式区分を利用し，ジャンルの分散する「随筆」「理論」「研究法」などのカテゴリでBCCWJサンプルを分類することが可能となる。そこで，付与した形式区分「随筆」サンプル群を例とし，語彙特徴から文体的な傾向を調査した。さらに，柏野（2015）の文体指標を用い，「随筆」の文体特徴として考えられてきた「主観的」で「軟らかく」「くだけている」傾向などを確認する。, 国立国語研究所, Japanese

  本稿では単一文書自動要約の新たな展開について言語資源と評価指標の観点から検討する．まず，最初に語順に対する順序尺度を含めた距離空間・類似度・相関係数・カーネルにより既存の自動評価指標の整理を行い，現在ある言語資源を用いてその指標空間の性質を明らかにする．次に自動要約の評価として必要な軸として，提供すべき情報の過不足と読みやすさの二つを考える．情報の過不足については，元文書の情報構造を言語生産者・言語受容者の双方の観点から分析し，システム要約・参照要約双方の情報の質を検討する．読みやすさについては，生成されたテキストの読み時間に基づいた定量的な評価方法について検討する．最後に語順・情報構造・読み時間の関係性について解説し，読み時間を用いた言語受容者毎の要約作成の可能性について議論する．, 一般社団法人情報処理学会, Japanese

  2023年度は、自動解析のための訓練データの構築のために『現代日本語書き言葉均衡コーパス』に対する結合比喩・文脈比喩のアノテーション作業を進め、30万語規模のアノテーションデータが完成した。このデータに基づく比喩情報の自動解析手法として、系列ラベリング技術に関する調査を行った。また、そのための基礎資料として、1億語規模の分類語彙表番号自動付与データの整備を進めた。
  『比喩表現の理論と分類』データの電子化に関する論文1件（国立国語研究所論集）と、『現代日本語書き言葉均衡コーパス』に対する指標比喩アノテーションデータの分析に関する論文1件（日本認知科学会論文誌『認知科学』）を発表した。
  2024年3月18日に京都大学で開催された日本語用論学会メタファー研究会「メタファーとコーパス」において、「日本語比喩表現コーパス（BCCWJ-Metaphor）の構築と一般日本語話者の有する比喩性の印象」というタイトルで、比喩コーパス構築の現況について報告した。
  また、比喩表現の自動解析技術として、分布意味論に関する研究動向を調査し、これらの内容は、1件の講演会（東京外国語大学国際日本学研究院 NINJAL ユニット講演会）と1件の入門セミナー（立命館大学）にて発表した。
  言語処理学会第30回年次大会(NLP2024)にて「日本語言語資源の構築と利用性の向上」を共同企画した。その中でレトリックに関する発表セッションを企画するとともに、2件の比喩表現言語資源に関する発表を行った。

• 日本語コーパスに対する単語心象性情報付与とその利用

  2023年度は『日本経済新聞記事オープンコーパス』に対して読み時間とともに「自然さ」「わかりやすさ」「古さ」「新しさ」「比喩性」の情報を付与し、読み時間と印象評定情報との対照分析を行った。その結果、「古さ」が読み時間を延ばす一方で、「自然さ」「わかりやすさ」とともに「比喩性」が読み時間を短縮する効果があることを確認した。この内容について日本認知科学会第40回大会にて発表した。
  また、国立国語研究所の過去の著作である『動詞の意味・用法の記述的研究』、『形容詞の意味・用法の記述的研究』、『比喩表現の理論と分類』、『現代語の助詞・助動詞』の例文について電子化を行い、印象評定情報の収集を行った。『比喩表現の理論と分類』の電子化については、国立国語研究所論集に論文を発表した。しかしながら、『動詞の意味・用法の記述的研究』、『形容詞の意味・用法の記述的研究』には、旧字旧かなが含まれており、適切に実験協力者に表示することができなかったため、再調査が必要なことが分かった。再調査に必要な作業として、旧字旧かなも含めてデータの再整備手法について検討を行った。
  さらに、『現代日本語書き言葉均衡コーパス』に付与した印象評定情報について、文節係り受け情報や分類語彙表の語義情報との対照分析を進めた。この分析により、印象評定と言語的特徴（統語・語義）の相互関係について検討し、日本語表現の特性や意味のニュアンスに関する検討を行った。

• 文体分析を目的としたコーパスの文書情報拡張及びその利用

  本年度は，2018年度の試行結果に基づき，書籍サンプルの情報拡張に注力した。BCCWJの書籍サンプル（約2万件）の持つNDC情報を形式区分まで拡張した。具体的には，国立国会図書館（NDL OPAC）データを収集し，NDC新訂10版（2017年公開）に基づくNDC形式区分3桁を追加した最大6桁とする作業を完了した。本作業内容は，国語研究所の開催する「言語資源活用ワークショップ2019」において「『現代日本語書き言葉均衡コーパス』書籍サンプルのNDC情報増補」として発表を行った。
  このほか，新聞サンプルの情報拡張として，BCCWJの新聞サンプル（約1,500件）につき，各サンプルを記事へ分割する作業を行ったほか，一部のデータについてトピックや文体情報などの付与作業を行った。これらの作業試行を行ったサンプルを用い，比喩情報の記事ジャンル分類を試み，国際会議International Cognitive Linguistics Conference（ICLC 15）において，「Exploring metaphorical expressions in Japanese newspaper-article corpora」として発表した。また，書籍『認知言語学の羽ばたき― 実証性の高い言語研究を目指して ―』に「日本語比喩情報付与コーパスの作成と新聞における比喩実態調査の試み」として発表した。
  なお，小説サンプルの情報拡張については，販売店などによる既存分類の収集に取りかかっている。

• 多義語に対するプロトタイプ義の量的分析－クラウドソーシングによる大規模調査－

  本研究の目的は，現代日本語形容詞の多義に対するモデル構築である。籾山（2001）は，多義を記述するための主要な課題に次の4点をあげている。①複数の意味の認定，②プロトタイプ的意味の認定，③複数の意味の相互関係の明示，④複数の意味すべてを統括するモデル・枠組みの解明。これらの課題解決に向けて，言語学的手法と心理実験的手法がさまざまに提案されてきたが，形容詞に対して統一的に調査・実証できる手法は編まれていない。本研究では，心理実験的なアプローチから，双方向類似度評定を大規模調査し，多義語の実態を明らかにする。初年度は，次の研究実施計画のうち，（i）に取り組んだ。
  (i)2019年度：調査の設計・調査データの作成・基礎データの公開
  (ii)2020年度：クラウドソーシングの調査・調査結果を公開
  (iii)2021年度：双方向類似度データの分析
  本研究の新規性は，双方向評定による手法の確立にある。プロトタイプ的意味と派生的意味は，基本義と拡張義ともいわれるように，その方向性とともに論証される。多義間の類似が認められやすい方向に着目し，評定実験の結果から派生関係を解明する。具体的には，先行研究の代表義リストと意味情報付与コーパスを統合的に活用しながら用例間の双方向評定調査を進める。これにより，多義のあり方を再現可能な形で明らかにできると考えられる。
  2019年度は，（i）の成果として，調査結果を21語分公開した。言語直感を実証研究に活用することを目的に，Google Sites（http://bit.do/tagimusubi）に，クラウドソーシングの生データ・集計データ・デンドログラムを掲載している。本研究で考案する心理実験的手法が，形容詞に対して有効に働くことを次年度以降検討していくとともに，調査方法の短所も個別事例から明確にする。

• Creation and utilization of classification criteria for thesaurus maintenance and extension

  本年度は，以下の2つを行った。
  （1）分類基準の作成のための基礎作業を行った。『分類語彙表』の895の分類項目と『新明解類語辞典』の830の（意味）領域とをデータとし，3つの方法で両者の意味分類の関係を調査した。一つ目は，『分類語彙表』にある語が『新明解類語辞典』にも収録されているかどうかを調べた，一致率，二つ目は，『分類語彙表』のそれぞれの分類項目に対して，『新明解類語辞典』の中で最も多く共通する語がある領域との一致率（「部分一致率」），三つ目は，『分類語彙表』の分類項目にある見出し語が『新明解類語辞典』のいくつの領域に出現するか，その散らばり度合いを調べた。結果は，前2者では，体の類の一致率が高く，用の類の一致率が低い（したがって体の類の意味分類が安定している）ことが分かった。しかし，三つめの分野の散らばり度合いでは，逆に，体の類が高く（安定していない），用の類が相対的に低い（安定している）ことが分かった。これらの結果を受けて，体の類から分類基準の作成を始めるのが妥当と判断した。なお，調査結果は，「語彙研究」17（2020年3月）に掲載された。
  （2）『分類語彙表』への新語，新用法の増補については，近年刊行された国語辞典から該当するものをピックアップした。

• 日本語歴史コーパスに対する統語・意味情報アノテーション

  平成31年度は主に『分類語彙表』の関連する言語資源整備を進めた。
  『分類語彙表』に対する位相情報アノテーション（NLP2019 言語資源賞受賞）を整備し、公開した。『分類語彙表』と『岩波国語辞典第五版タグ付きコーパス2004』の対応表を構築し、令和2年度中に公開予定である。
  『日本語歴史コーパス』に対する分類語彙表番号アノテーションにおいては、『宇治拾遺物語』『国定読本（第1期）』に対する作業が完了し、『今昔物語集』『国定読本（第2期）』に対する作業に着手した。並行して行った『現代日本語書き言葉コーパス』に対する分類語彙表番号アノテーションおよび助動詞の用法アノテーションについて公開を行った。
  語義推定の自動化を進めるために自然言語処理の事前学習フレームワーク BERT の日本語モデル NWJC-BERT を構築し、文脈化単語埋め込み情報出力環境を整備した。具体的には『国語研日本語ウェブコーパス』 250億語に基づき訓練を行い、『現代日本語書き言葉コーパス』に対する文脈化単語埋め込み情報付与作業を実施した。同データ BERTed-BCCWJ は NLP2020 言語資源賞を受賞した。『日本語歴史コーパス』に対しても同モデルで文脈化単語埋め込み情報を付与(BERTed-CHJ)し、その概要について日本語学会2020年度春季大会で発表予定である。
  統語関連においては、UD Japanese-GSD の再整備を進めた。2020年5月のリリースに向けて作業を継続している。また近代語に対する長単位・係り受け情報アノテーションについて検討を進めた。

• Figurative Expression Extraction from Corpora and Analysis

  We constructed simile and metaphor expression databases based on the Balanced Corpus of Contemporary Written Japanese. We will release the simile expression database based on the Balanced Corpus of Contemporary Written Japanese and 'A stylistic study of the figurative' by Akira Nakamura in 2022.
  The oral presentation of the metaphor expression database will be made at an international conference RaAM15 (15th Researching and Applying Metaphor Conference: September 2022, online). We will also write an article on the metaphor expression database, and release it.

• A Cognitive Pragmatic Study on the Dynamism of Generation and Trasformation of Narrative

  研究代表者仲本は、人が自らの人生を語るとき、その心的世界を欲求と信念の間で揺れ動く心の葛藤として表わす傾向があることを指摘し、その背後で働く認知的営みとして力のダイナミクス――力動性に基づく比喩理解が存在することを明らかにした。具体的には、〈心は身体である〉〈心は闘技場である〉という二つの概念メタファーを中心に、心の葛藤をめぐる語りが、身体的なバランスの維持／喪失／回復、あるいは欲求と信念の間で繰り広げられる相互行為――闘争として表現されることを解明した。
  次に、分担者岡本は、独話における相互行為性を解明するため、講義中に実践した対話変換実験に基づく分析をもとに、仮想的相互行為がオープンコミュニケーションモデルによって相互行為と認知の2つのレベルで記述することが可能であることを示した。さらに、否定的直喩標識「じゃないけど（ではないが）」に着目することで、語りの中でアナロジーの否定的側面がどのように言語化されるのかを観察するとともに、そうした否定的側面がプロファイルされる基盤を実際の日常会話の談話シークエンスの分析によって明らかにした。いずれの分析結果においても、その背景には、談話における話し手と聞き手の共有基盤化プロセスが大きく関わっていると考えられる。
  以上の二つの研究を通して、本研究が目標とする「語りの生成と変容のダイナミズム」についての考察が、１）比喩による語りの構造化、２）独話／対話に基づく相互行為という観点から多面的に深められてきていると言える。

  The purpose of this research project is to investigate from the cognitive linguistic perspective how people construct realities in narrative by telling stories. When we tell stories to others in everyday life, we seek coherency between narratives and the world created by them. In this study we called this habit of mind “narrative reality” and examined its major aspects focusing on the following three points: (1) narrative markers help organize the structure of stories, providing them the coherency; (2) a single story can be co-constructed dynamically by more than one speaker; (3) a story accepts changes as it is retold repeatedly while retaining its identity. Then, we made a multilateral analysis of the latent structure of narratives that cross-links narrative’s expandability and repeatability and the potential of co-construction by multiple speakers.

  In this study, we investigated what kinds of contents are collected from existing language resources; corpora and clarified what kind of information can be obtained from texts. We examined the relationship between text and information by experiments on how readers recognized the contents from text. We proposed the useful information and their practical presentation order for glossaries, explanation for people without knowledge, and appropriate summary of various documents.
