I am a tourism geographer originally from Hakuba, Nagano Prefecture, Japan.

My main research interests are as follows:

I. Research on Climate Change and Tourism

 • Analysis of the impacts of climate change on mountain tourism

 • Behavioral analysis of people practicing environmentally responsible tourism

II. Research on Tourism Destination Development Processes

 • Empirical analysis of resort development processes

 • Geographical analysis of mountain sports

III. Regional Studies on the French Alps

 • Transitions toward sustainable forms of tourism and regional development

 
Teaching Activities

I am engaged in graduate-level education at the Graduate School of International Media, Communication, and Tourism Studies, Hokkaido University.

I am currently accepting master’s and doctoral students.

    「長野県白馬村のスキーリゾートにおけるホスト化した外国人の役割─リゾート発展プロセスにおけるアクターの変遷に着目して」地理学評論第95巻第1号
    1990年を境にスキー客の減少を経験してきた日本のスキーリゾートが;とりわけ;年代以降のインバウンド観光の追い風を受けて外国人スキー客向けに地域変容しつつある姿を;長野県白馬村を事例に描いた研究である. その際;地域変容をうながす重要なアクターとして;現地で宿泊施設や旅行代理店等を経営する「ホスト化する外国人;の果たす役割に着目するとともに;村内に存在する各地区のミクロな地域差が「ホスト化する外国人;の表れ方にも影響する様子を実証的に明らかにした点が優れた論文と評価される. また;そのような現象が海外のスキーリゾートと日本とでは異なって表出することも指摘されており;比較地域研究の点でも重要な観点を提供している;アフターコロナにおいては再びインバウンドが盛んになると考えられるなかで;日本において外国人がホストとしてどのような役割を果たすかという命題に取り組んだことは;スキーリゾートだけでなくツーリズム全般に示唆を与えるものであると考えられる

    2023年度は，研究代表者および研究分担者それぞれで，次の内容について研究を進めた。
    研究代表者の呉羽は，北海道ニセコ地域および長野県白馬村において，新規宿泊施設の立地拡大に関する調査・分析を実施した。ヨーロッパアルプスにおける山岳リゾートの季節バランスについて検討した。研究分担者のフンクは，奄美大島を対象に，自然世界遺産登録後のガイド体制と観光の変化に関する調査を行った。また，島に対する旅行意欲やイメージ，そして持続可能な観光に対する関心についてオンライン・アンケートを実施した。有馬は，日本国内の観光への旅行者を対象に，観光に求める環境的価値や来訪目的等についてのアンケート調査を実施した。また，横浜市や鎌倉市，箱根町，あきる野市等での観光に対する住民の聞き取り調査などを実施した。松井は，壱岐・対馬などの離島観光，および大都市圏郊外地域における多様な観光動態に関して現地調査を実施した。杜は，長野県，岩手県，京都府の主要都市および地域において，訪日観光の進展について調査した。また，TripAdvisorにおける東京23区と主要都市の投稿情報を収集して，言語間の投稿差異を分析した。池田は，長野県小諸市におけるアルベルゴ・ディフーゾと緩やかなジェントリフィケーションについて調査・分析を行った。また，岡山県津山市の「まちじゅう博物館」について検討した。小島は， 北海道札幌市，北海道旭川市，新潟県十日町市において，現代雪まつりの開催形態に関する調査を実施し，長期間継続するイベントである現代雪まつりの地域的な位置付けの変遷について検討した。吉沢は，日本のスキー場における人工雪施設の設置傾向，西日本のスキー場への気候変動への影響に関する調査・分析を行った。また，フランスにおける脱ツーリズムに関する調査を実施した。
