令和3年度の研究では,銅箔と紙フェノールから構成されるプリント基板を対象に,燃え拡がりと消炎現象に及ぼす試料幅の影響を調査した.実験では試料の保持方法に工夫を施し,燃え拡がり時における,試料の側面から保持具への熱損失を低減するために,両サイドに空間を設け,その空間幅も実験変数として,試料の燃焼特性を体系的に調査した.
その結果,プラスチックや布などの可燃物単体の燃焼試験で使用される,試料の両サイドを金属板などで挟み込む保持方法をプリント基板のような複合材に流用すると,試料の中央から側面の方向に大きな熱損失を生み出し,材料の難燃性を非常に高く見積もってしまうことが明らかになった.このことから,試料側面に空間を設けて燃え拡がりを観察する方法論が,難燃性評価の観点から有効な手法であることを実験的に示した.
しかしながら,試料側面の空間を大きく取りすぎると,試料の角部において三次元的な燃え拡がり形態を取り,燃え拡がりが複雑化することで現象の理解が困難になることが明らかになった.
理想的には,平面を一様に燃え拡がる二次元燃え拡がりを実現することが望ましく,側面への熱損失を低減しつつ,角部の3次元燃え拡がりも防止する最適な側面の空間サイズが存在すると考えられる.
このことを踏まえて,試料幅も変数として,試料側面の空間影響について調査した結果,二次元燃え拡がりを実現する最適な間隙距離は試料幅によって変化することが明らかになった.今後,プリント基板のような複合材に置いて理想的な二次元燃え拡がりを実現するための理想的な間隙距離を議論可能な支配メカニズムについてさらなる検討を進める.

2019年度は,以下の3項目について研究を実施した.
1.電線上燃え拡がり火炎の消炎現象に及ぼす金属導体を通した熱輸送の影響:火炎燃え拡がり時におけるエネルギー保存式を構築し理論解析を行った.その結果,金属導体の熱伝導率が大きくなると,燃え拡がり速度が大きくなる一方,系全体の熱損失が増大し消炎に至りやすくなることを明らかにした.本研究成果は,先行研究の微小重力実験の結果を理論的に裏付けるものとなる.さらに,構築した理論モデルを検証するために,火炎燃え拡がり時における金属導体の温度分布を計測する方法(熱電対を用いた温度計測法)を確立した.実験と理論解析の結果を比較することで理論解析の妥当性を示すことができた.
2.火炎形状モデルに関する検討:火炎サイズは,火炎燃え拡がり時における試料への入熱量を決定する重要な代表長さである.そのため,火炎燃え拡がりと消炎現象のモデル化を行う上で本項目は重要な課題である.本研究では,まず噴流拡散火炎の形状モデルに関する先行研究の調査を行った.その結果,電線上を燃え拡がる火炎の形状を既往研究で導かれた理論式によって推定可能であると示すことに成功した.
3.限界酸素濃度を予測するための理論モデルの構築:1,2で得られた成果を基に,燃え拡がり火炎が消炎に至る酸素濃度(限界酸素濃度)を推定するための無次元数の修正を行った.その結果,理論解析から得られる無次元量によって,限界酸素濃度と空気流速の関係を予測可能であると示すことに成功した.
以上に記した研究内容に加え,電線材料の下方火炎伝播試験方法を確立した.
