English, Scientific journal, Across the globe, landslides cause significant loss of life, injuries, and widespread damage to homes and infrastructure. Therefore, assessing and analyzing landslide hazards is crucial to human, environmental, cultural, economic, and social sustainability. This study utilizes ArcGIS 10.8 and Python 3.9 to create landslide databases for Niigata Prefecture (NIG), Iwate and Miyagi Prefectures (IWT-MYG), and Hokkaido (HKD), drawing on data obtained from the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience, Japan. A distinguishing feature of this study is the application of a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), which significantly outperforms traditional machine learning models in image-based pattern recognition by extracting contextual information from surrounding areas, a distinct advantage in image and pattern recognition tasks. Unlike conventional methods that often require manual feature selection and engineering, CNNs automate feature extraction, enabling a more nuanced understanding of complex patterns. By experimenting with CNN input window sizes ranging from 3 × 3 to 27 × 27 pixels and employing diverse sampling techniques, we demonstrate that larger windows enhance the model’s predictive accuracy by capturing a wider range of environmental interactions critical for effective landslide modeling. CNN models with 19 × 19 pixel windows typically yield the best overall performance, with CNN-19 achieving an AUC of 0.950, 0.982 and 0.969 for NIG, HKD, and IWT-MYG, respectively. Furthermore, we improve prediction reliability using oversampling and a random window-moving method. For instance, in the NIG region, the AUC of the oversampling CNN-19 is 0.983, while the downsampling AUC is 0.950). These techniques, less commonly applied in traditional machine learning approaches to landslide detection, help address the issue of data imbalance often seen in landslide datasets, where instances of landslides are far outnumbered by non-landslide occurrences. English, Scientific journal, Based on the Rigid Plastic Finite Element Method (RPFEM), this study investigates the performance of the footing on the soil with a cavity. The RPFEM is used in plane strain conditions and necessitates only a few materials to predict the bearing capacity: the unit weight of the soil, the cohesion, the shear resistance angle, and the dilation angle. Considering diverse soil types, including cohesive and intermediate soils, the findings are presented through dimensionless 2D charts in which the horizontal axis X and vertical axis Y are normalized to parameters R and H, representing the horizontal and vertical dimensions of the plastic mechanism beneath the footing in the absence of the soil cavity. Analyzing geometric factors such as footing width B and cavity characteristics (shape, size, and location), the study reveals that the farther the cavity, the less it impacts the footing performance. The distribution of the normalized bearing capacity across the (X, Y) space elucidates the expansion and variation of the influence zone. Equations incorporating the mentioned geometric parameters and soil shear strengths are proposed and verified with data in the literature. In cohesive soils, the influence zone predominantly extends vertically, following the expansion of the slip surface in no void condition. Conversely, for intermediate soils, the zone of influence exhibits a dependency on the shear resistance angle, resulting in an extension in one direction more than the other. Japanese, Scientific journal, A multiple steel pipes bridge pier integrated by pile foundation without a footing has been proposed to design a rational foundation of the bridge pier structure. Based on the past achievements, the proposed substructures possess an excellent advantage of reduction of strain at the column through strain decentralization at footing point. In addition, reduction in footing weight contributes to decrease pile strain. On the other hand, the proposed substructure has some disadvantages i.e. increase in strain and displacement of piles. But it has been revealed that the strain generated at piles can be minimized by using underground beams around pile heads in the ground. In this paper, the seismic performance of the proposed bridge pier structure grounded in dry sand and liquefiable sand is evaluated based on the large-scale shaking table tests using bridge pier and foundation models with the scale of 1/20. As with the past achievements, the proposed structure has advantages of strain reduction of column by strain decentralization at footing point. It is recognized that it has high seismic performance and high toughness in view of the fact that the main members (columns and piles) hold a large residual strength after yielding of the shear panels. - 信濃川大河津分水旧可動堰の基礎構造と空洞発生原因の調査

Japanese, Scientific journal, A large-scale slope failure of embankment, which consists of volcanic sediment, at Aizu-Wakamatsu City in Fukushima Prefecture occurred due to The 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake. Some signatures of liquefaction have been observed in the collapsed embankment. When investigating the embankment slope failure mechanism, it is necessary to study the effects of particle breakage. In this study, some static and repeated triaxial tests were conducted for the soil material sampled from the site in order to investigate the change of the particle size distribution with isotropic consolidation stress and shear stress and the effect on the shear strength characteristics due to the particle breakage. From the test results, it was revealed that the sampled soil, subjected to the effective isotropic consolidation stress of 100kPa or less, increases the particle breakage amount rapidly and the shear resistance angle is significantly reduced with the increase of the particle breakage amount. Subsequently, seismic deformation analysis was carried out for the slope failure of the embankment based on the mechanical properties obtained in the test. Japanese, Scientific journal, In 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake, lots of seawalls were destroyed by Tsunami. By the survey of destroyed seawalls, not only the wave pressure to dyke but also seepage force in ground have been reported to contribute to the instability of seawalls. However, it has been difficult to consider the effect of seepage force in the stability analysis of seawalls. This paper presents the hybrid stability analysis of rigid plastic finite element method and seepage finite element method in order to evaluate the total stability of seawall against tsunami. To simplify the problem, ultimate bearing capacity of caisson is investigated under the specific seepage condition by setting the sea water levels of upstream and downstream of caisson. Through case studies, the effect of seepage force on the instability of seawall is examined by handling the magnitude of seepage force. The effect of embedment of caisson on ultimate bearing capacity is also investigated. The depth of embedment works to the stabilization of seawall from the two aspects. One is the mechanical stabilization of caisson by overburden pressure and the assistance in shear strength of overburden ground. The other is the decrease in seepage force by embedment. Japanese, Scientific journal, This study carried out full-scale tension, compression and shearing test for various types of joint sections in steel pipe sheet pile (SPSP) as detailed understanding of mechanical characteristics for the SPSP foundations. Furthermore, 3D-frame structural analysis that can consider obtained mechanical characteristics of joint sections in SPSP was developed.
In this study, the tension, compression and shearing behaviors were clarified experimentally for P-P, P-T, L-T and H-H joint sections. Japanese, Scientific journal, Steel pipe sheet pile reinforcement method for existing caisson foundation in water, which is driving SPSP around caisson foundation and connecting between SPSP and caisson at the top, is proposed. This method is constructed in practical, but effect of reinforcement and SPSP load ratios, which refers to the total load transmitted from caisson to SPSP reinforcement divided by the total load applied on the SPSP reinforced caisson, is not understood. It is thought that these factors are influenced by caisson-SPSP connection condition and flexural rigidity ratios of caisson to the SPSP and bearing layer's condition. To make these influence clear and recommend easy, cheap and effective construction method, centrifugal tests on these factor are conducted.

Abstract
The present study calculated the maximum bearing capacity of a strip footing against eccentrically inclined coupled loading on c-ϕ soil, by means of the plane strain rigid plastic finite element method (RPFEM). The influence of soil strengths and footing width on the V-H and H-M failure envelopes (presenting the vertical load V, horizontal load H, and moment M) was thoroughly surveyed to assess the uniqueness of the V-H-M failure envelope. Based on the obtained results, the V-H-M failure envelope was found to be distinct for each value of normalized cohesion c/γB and internal friction angle ϕ. Many geotechnical disasters, such as slope failure and liquefaction, occurred in the Niigataken Chuetsu-oki Earthquake in 2007. Most of these damages concentrate on geological boundary such as the foot of sandy dune. In order to delineate geological structure in the disaster area, a series of investigations was carried out. The surface-wave method was carried out firstly. Next borings and soundings were conducted at the selected points based on the Swave velocity model obtained from the surface-wave method. Investigation results clearly showed the efficiency of the investigation method by combining the surface-wave method with the following detailed investigation such as the borings and soundings., The Japanese Geotechnical Society, Japanese - 地盤の液状化(刈羽村稲場)

In this paper, the problems of Steel Pipe Sheet Pile(SPSP) reinforcing method for existing caisson foundation in water, which involves driving SPSP around the caisson foundation and then connecting the SPSP to the caisson at the top is elaborated. A new economical and effective reinforcing structure of SPSP reinforcing method is suggested to solve these problems. The practical application of the new structure and its reinforcement mechanism is investigated comparing with that of the traditional structure using some model tests and three-dimensional FEM. After Hyogo earthquake in 1995, bridge foundations have been reinforced by several kinds of methods. The method in which caisson foundation is reinforced by steel pipe sheet piles (SPSP) has been developed and practically constructed. In this research, centrifugal model tests on this foundation system were conducted to grasp the mechanical and deformation behavior under lateral loading. H-joint steel pipe sheet pile was developed from a simple idea in which two steel pipes are connected by a welded H-steel section before installation. The resulting H-steel pipe sheet pile is completely waterproof, has high bearing capacity, high utility in execution and is economical. When this H-joint is applied in the steel pipe sheet pile foundations, it has high horizontal bearing capacity. The steel materials required is reduced. Two square steel pipe sheet pile model foundations, one made from H-joints alternating with the traditional joints and the other made from traditional joints only, are tested under lateral static loading in a centrifuge. A single model pile is tested under the same centrifuge conditions. Joint efficiency, which is an important parameter in horizontal bearing capacity of steel pipe sheet pile foundations is calculated for both test models. Reinforcement effect of the H-joint in the horizontal bearing capacity of foundations is confirmed. 近年の太陽光発電設備の建設急増は、発電事業の成立性を確保のため、地盤条件が悪いながらも安価な土地で大規模に施工されるケースや、傾斜地上に建設されるケースなど、地盤や施工条件が悪い現場での施工事例を増やす結果となった。そのため、2014年の桐生市における土砂流出による太陽光発電設備設置斜面の崩壊事例を皮切りに、豪雨・強風被害が年々顕在化している。
本研究では、①現実的な条件下あるいは厳密な管理下における、小径スパイラル杭の複合荷重に対する支持力機構解明、②その支持力機構に立脚した斜面上構造物の支持と斜面安定工の複数機能を有する構造形式の開発、③機械学習による斜面災害危険箇所の回避方法の構築を目的に研究を実施した。
①では、浸透力載荷・サクションコントロール管理対応型の模型杭載荷試験装置を用いて、回転貫入の影響を考慮した小径スパイラル杭の飽和砂地盤における鉛直支持力特性を把握した。その結果、前年度実施した乾燥砂地盤の結果と同様に、スパイラル杭のスパイラーの巻き数増加による貫入抵抗の減少、静的繰返し載荷時における通常のストレート杭とスパイラル杭との支持機構、特に周面摩擦力の発揮機構の違いを明らかにした。また、小径スパイラル杭の複合荷重に対する支持力機構解明をFEM解析で明らかにし、国際ジャーナルへ投稿した。
②では、上記に基づき、斜面上構造物の支持と斜面安定工の複数機能を有する構造形式のプロトタイプを検討した。
③では、前年度実施した札幌市南区、北海道厚真町、安平町、むかわ町の地すべりに対する広域危険度評価の精度をさらに向上させることを目的に、評価地点の周辺環境情報(標高、起伏量、傾斜角、曲率、累積流量)を取り入れた分析方法を試みた。その結果、危険度予測の対象である斜面災害規模に応じて、周辺環境の考慮範囲を決定することの重要性を明らかにした。

High-latitude zone like Hokkaido is an important region where it is expected to benefit and develop from global warming in future, while it is also expected that new types of geotechnical disasters, which never experienced before, will occur due to climate change. Therefore, in this study, we have constructed a theoretical system that reasonably explains the geotechnical disasters peculiar to snowy cold regions, which are different from the geotechnical disasters observed in warm regions, from the viewpoint of multiphysics (multiphase mechanics) and space-time multiscale by considering the interaction between thermal / hydraulic boundary condition changes and mechanical behavior in the normal to low temperature range. In addition, by using this theoretical system, we have proposed a hierarchical methodology that can evaluate the wide-area risk of geotechnical disasters in high-latitude cold regions occurred under near future weather conditions supposed by the climate change prediction.

Clarification of cohesive soil behavior during and after earthquakes was achieved through field investigation, laboratory experiments, and numerical analysis, with special emphasis on earthquake-induced residual deformation, instability and post-earthquake settlements. Instability of residential foundations is accelerated by rising groundwater levels and by the increasing gradient of foundations. Even for gently sloping foundations, the importance of initial shear stress was emphasized when evaluating the severity of residual deformation of residences during earthquakes. In relation to the post-earthquake settlement, highly structured cohesive soils induce marked settlement and also prolong settlement. Results of field observations and numerical analyses proved that the combined technique of a partial embankment removal with sheet pile installation between embankments and residences was effective as a countermeasure against the instability of embankments caused by earthquakes.

A multiple steel pipes bridge pier integrated by pile foundation without a footing has been proposed to design a rational foundation of the bridge pier structure. The proposed substructures possess an excellent advantage of reduction of strain at the column through strain decentralization at footing point. In addition, reduction in footing weight contributes to decrease pile strain. The seismic performance of the proposed bridge pier structure grounded in dry sand and liquefiable sand is evaluated based on the large-scale shaking table tests and numerical simulation. As a result, the proposed structure has advantages of strain reduction of column by strain decentralization at footing point. It is recognized that it has high seismic performance and high toughness in view of the fact that the main members hold a large residual strength after yielding of the shear panels.

Subsidence in Kashiwazaki has been observed after the earthquake of 2007. Unlike subsidence due to drawdown of groundwater level, it has become clear that there is no correlation between the subsidence and the groundwater level. The previous research has been concluded that long-term dissipation behavior of excess pore water pressure (EPWP) occurred during the earthquake is the main factor. However, because it does not match with the observations, the addition field survey was conducted to explain the remaining conditions of EPWP and understand the continuous clay soil constants. It were used to improve the accuracy of the simulation and investigate the effect on settlement behavior under various conditions. As the mechanism, focusing on the compression softening phenomenon caused by loss of the structure, through the results of the cyclic triaxial test and centrifugal model tests, it was reviewing the possibility that compression softening phenomenon occurs.

This study investigated the characteristics of the landslides developed around the Usuki-Yatsushiro Tectonic Line in the Kyushu district. As a result of statistical analysis of the landslide shapes, the incidence and the direction of movement of the sliding unit varied depending on its geology. The pattern of longitudinal profile of landslides changed gradually in proportion to the increase of the displacement ratio.

本研究は堤体の不飽和・飽和せん断強度および堤体内の浸透力を考慮して堤体の侵食プロセス下における安定性評価システムを開発することを目的とする. 本研究では研究目的を達成するために, 3つのアプローチを実施した. アプローチ(A)は室内模型試験による堤体の越水に伴う侵食破壊実験である. 試験では先行降雨・河川水による堤体の湿潤条件によって異なる堤体の侵食破壊過程について示し, 堤体の侵食とせん断破壊の代表的プロセスを示した. アプローチ(B)は水理学的手法による堤体の侵食過程の数値解析である. 平面標高情報(DEM)に基づいて越水による堤体の侵食破壊過程を再現する手法を開発し, その適用性を事例解析(平成16 年新潟・福島豪雨災害の破堤事例)によって示した. アプローチ(C)は地盤工学的手法による堤体の安定性評価手法の開発である. 不飽和・飽和浸透解析と地盤の安定解析手法を併用するハイブリッド手法により, せん断強度の変化や浸透力の多次元的な作用を考慮した解析手法を開発した. 模型試験の数値解析のほか, 平成16年度の新潟・福島豪雨災害における堤体の破堤事例の数値解析により, 解析手法の適用性を明らかにした.
