Japanese,The deeper part of the Earth's mantle is considered to be reduced state where CH4, H2, and hydrocarbons would exist. Thus, the reduced species of carbon-hydrogen compounds are likely to play an important role in the deep cycle of carbon and hydrogen at the upper mantle. Effects of H2 fluid on stability and phase relation of silicate minerals were investigated on MgO-SiO2-H2 systems using laser-heated diamond-anvil cells. It was revealed that SiO2 components dissolve into H2 fluid, with formation of Si-H compounds and H2O molecules at 2-15 GPa, >1500 K. Aromatic hydrocarbons are considered as the most abundant organic materials in nature and the existence of aromatic compounds in interior of the Earth and icy planets has been reported. In this study, pressure-induced chemical reactions of aromatic hydrocarbons, such as benzene and naphthalene were reported. Mass spectrometry of the reaction products revealed that oligomerization occurred after compression >15 GPa at room temperature. The dimerization products were classified into three groups, simple dimerization, naphthylation, and condensation. It was indicated that release of hydrogen by the pressure-induced oligomerization was lesser as compared to the temperature-induced pyrolysis. The results provide a basic information on the chemical reaction of organics in the deep interior of the Earth.

English, Scientific journal, The nature of protons in ice VII up to 368°C and 16GPa was investigated with synchrotron near-infrared spectroscopy. The absorption band of the first OH stretching overtone mode divided into doublet peaks above 5GPa at room temperature, suggesting that proton tunneling occurs at the overtone level. As the temperature increased, the doublet peaks gradually reduced to a singlet. This result implies that thermally activated protons hop between the two potential minima along the oxygen-oxygen axis. 2010 - 2010, Spin state of Fe3+ in Al-bearing post-Mg-perovskite was measured by X-ray emission spectroscopy by reducing pressure from 165 to 35 GPa at room temperature. The result indicates that Fe3+ is low spin from 165 to around 95 GPa and it becomes almost high spin from around 95 to 35 GPa. This indicates that most Fe3+ in Al-bearing post-Mg-perovskite in the lower mantle would be in the low spin state.

昨年に引き続いて、圧力が有機物の安定性と化学反応に与える影響を明らかにするため、ダイヤモンドアンビルセルを用いた室温高圧実験を行った。複数の芳香族化合物を出発物質として、高圧下における赤外、ラマンスペクトルの測定、および高エネルギー加速器研究機構PF BL18Cにおける粉末X線回折実験をおこなった。その結果、圧力誘起の相変化および不可逆な化学反応が見つかった。ナフタレンを出発物質とした高圧実験の結果については昨年度行ったマルチアンビルプレス実験の結果と合わせて投稿論文にまとめ、chemical and physics lettersに掲載された。また、2016年6月に開催された国際学会(goldschmidt)での発表を行った。
さらに、前年度に製作したピストンシリンダー型高温高圧発生装置を用いて、複数種類の芳香族化合物を出発物質とした高温高圧実験を行った。現在、最高1.5 GPa, 350℃までの実験を行った。さらに、実験後に回収した試料はGC, GC/MSにより出発物質の残留量を定量化した。反応がみられた試料については、さらに元素分析から化学組成比の変化を評価し、GC, GC/MS、MALDIから反応生成物の定性、定量評価を行った。200℃-300℃程度で温度、圧力、保持時間を変えた複数の実験を行い、芳香族化合物の化学反応のメカニズムおよび、温度と圧力それぞれが与える影響を検討した。

C-O-H fluidはマントル鉱物の化学組成や溶融に大きな影響を与えることから、マントルダイナミクスを考える上で非常に重要な物質である。C-O-H fluidは酸化還元状態によって組成が変化し、還元的な地球深部ではH_2Oに加えてH_2,CH_4として存在していると考えられている。これまで、地球深部のH_2Oとマントル鉱物の反応に関しては多くの研究がおこなわれており、H_2Oが共存する条件下でのケイ酸塩鉱物の相関係や溶解反応が明らかにされている。カンラン石は上部マントルの主要構成鉱物であり、H_2O-カンラン石系ではカンラン石がH_2O中に調和溶解することが報告されている。一方で、H2共存下におけるカンラン石の溶解反応は明らかになっていない。
本年度はH_2とカンラン石を出発物質とする高温高圧実験を行った。出発物質のカンラン石には、鉄を含まないforsterite(Mg_2SiO_4)を用いた。圧力の発生にはダイヤモンドアンビルセルを用い、目的の圧力まで加圧した試料をCO_2レーザー、YAGレーザーを用いて加熱し、高温条件を発生した。放射光を用いた粉末X線回折実験および走査型電子顕微鏡(SEM)、透過型電子顕微鏡(TEM)を用いた回収試料の組織観察から、2.5GPa, 1400Kから15.0GPa, 1500Kの温度圧力条件下でforsteriteが分解溶解し、periclaseとfluid相となることが明らかになった。Fluid中のsilicate成分のMg/Si比は非常に低い、すなわちSiO_2に富んでいると考えられる。これはカンラン石の調和溶解が起きるH_2O共存下における溶解反応と対照的であり、本研究の結果は、C-O-H fluid中に溶解するケイ酸塩鉱物の組成は共存するC-O-H fluidの組成によって大きく変化することを示すものである。
