English, Scientific journal, Making orthodontic adhesives visible is valuable for safe and complete removal of these adhesives after completion of orthodontic treatments using a multibracket appliance. In order to make orthodontic adhesives visible by irradiation with purple or near ultraviolet light, trivalent europium ions, which emit clear red fluorescence, were doped into the lattices of zinc oxides by a homogeneous precipitation method and subsequent calcination at 400℃ or 850℃. The primary crystals of the synthesized products, overall, were on the nanoscale. The fluorescence intensity of the ZnO:Eu^<3+> nanoparticle-containing polymer adhesives was somewhat weak. The spectra, independent of the calcination temperatures, exhibited characteristic peaks corresponding to the intrinsic 4f-4f transitions of Eu^<3+>. However, it is evident from the X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns that the 850℃-calcination tended to crystallize more EU_2O_3, along with increased incorporation of Eu^<3+> ions into ZnO lattices, in comparison to the case with the 400℃-calcination. In addition, although the yielding load of the adhesives containing nanoparticles calcined at 850℃ decreased significantly, the decrease in the actual measured values was quite limited in both the cases. From a comprehensive standpoint, although the ZnO:Eu^<3+> nanoparticles calcined at 850℃ exhibited acceptable fluorescence intensity, the calcination at 400℃ is preferred for application to orthodontic adhesives.

English, Scientific journal, Transparent poly (methyl methacrylate)/organically modified montmorillonite (PMMA/OMMT) nanocomposites were fabricated using a solution intercalation method. OMMT was modified with quaternary alkylammonium ions. The haze values, which are the ratios of diffuse transmittance to total light transmittance via the nanocomposites, gradually increased with an increasing amount of OMMT; however, the deterioration of total light transmittance was maintained within a narrow range. X-ray diffraction patterns showed that a peak regarded as a (001) d-spacing or a second peak corresponding to (002) plane was shifted toward lower 2θ values indicating the penetration of the PMMA polymer chains into the interlayer regions of OMMT. Board-shaped specimens used for the flexural tests were fabricated by compression molding at 230°C. The specimens were sufficiently transparent for their use as esthetic orthodontic wires. The flexural modulus of the PMMA/OMMT nanocomposites increased favorably with an increasing amount of OMMT. It is reasonable to consider that the addition of OMMT to the nanocomposites effectively improves the stiffness of PMMA without seriously deteriorating its flexibility.

Japanese, Scientific journal, Recently, nosocomial infections of HBV, HCV, and HIV have become a concern, and the prevention of such infections for medical staff and patients based on standard precautions is important. Here the dimensional changes in alginate impressions after immersion in disinfectants and rinsing with water after disinfection was investigated. Experimental condition is as follows : Immersion in disinfectant test 1) Group D: in phtharal for 20 minutes. 2) Group SH: in 0.1% sodium hypochloride solution for 60 minutes. 3) Group W: in distilled water for 60 minutes. Disinfections-rinsing with water test 1) Group D-W : in distilled water for 30 minutes, after immersion in phtharal for 5 minutes. 2) Group SH-W: in distilled water for 30 minutes, after immersion in 0.1% sodium hypochloride solution for 60 minutes. There were 15 test pieces in each condition, and the test pieces were measured with a projector, and dimension change rates were calculated. The data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and post hoc tests. The results may be summarized as follows. 1. The dimensional changes of Group D and Group SH were smaller than the changes of Group W. 2. The test pieces immersed in distilled water after immersion in disinfectants expanded immediately. 3. Therefore, impressions should be rinsed with water quickly after immersion in disinfectant, then next inject plaster into the impressions soonest possible.

The Journal of Hokkaido Orthodontic Society, 32, 1, 8, 13, Hokkaido Orthodontic Society, 2004, [Peer-reviewed]
Japanese, Scientific journal, The purpose of our study is to investigate the incidence of post-orthodontic open gingival embrasures (black triangles) and to examine the association with open gingival embrasure in patients who underwent orthodontic/surgical combined treatment. Twenty-four subjects were randomly chosen from patients diagnosed as skeletal Class III reversed occlusion in Hokkaido University Hospital Orthodontic clinic. The incidences of 5 gingival embrasures from canine to canine in lower dental arch were evaluated at initial examination, before surgery and at debonding. A sample was divided into two groups: normal gingival embrasure (group A) and open gingival embrasure (group B). The following variables were evaluated the association with open gingival embrasure : age, treatment duration, Curve of Spee, arch length discrepancy, inter-maxillary elastics, the amount of surgical counter-clock-wise rotation of the mandible, change in crown length and the distance of incisor movement. The following results were obtained. 1. 12 of 24 patients had the black triangles. 2. 9 of 24 patients had the black triangles at debonding. 3. There were no statistical differences between group A and B regarding with age, treatment duration, intermaxillary elastic, the amount of upward rotation of the mandibule at surgery. 4. The Curve of Spee in group A was deeper than group B and this was statistically significant. 5. Incisor in group A had longer crown than one in group B, this was also statistically significant. 6. Incisor in group A had been elongated greater than in group B, this was also statistically significant.

Japanese, Scientific journal, A critical pathway helps to organize patient' s care and eliminates variations created by doctors' different experience. In order to establish a critical pathway for orthodontic/surgical combined treatment, we investigated the accuracy of pre-surgical orthodontic treatment concerning relationships between incisors, occlusal plane angle and amount of mandibular setback. The following results were obtained. As for the prediction of mandibular setback, the differences between before and after pre-surgical orthodontic treatment ranged from -2.7mm to +2.9 mm horizontally and from -5.9mm to +2.4 mm vertically. The differences between these two predictions of mandibular setback were evaluated by multiple regression analysis. The dependent variables were the horizontal and vertical differences in these predictions. The independent variables were the difference between the position of U1 predicted initially and the position after pre-surgical orthodontic treatment, the difference between positions of L1 and the difference between occlusal plane angles. The horizontal difference was related to the following variables : the horizontal difference of U1, the difference of occlusal plane angle, the horizontal and vertical differences of L1. The vertical difference was related to the vertical differences in U1 and the vertical differences in L1. The results suggest that attention should be given to the positions of the incisors, not only horizontally but also vertically, in order to perform mandibular setback as accurately as that predicted initially. Therefore, we should establish a critical pathway that enables evaluation of the positions of incisors during pre-surgical orthodontic treatment and improve the accuracy for the tooth movement.

Japanese, Scientific journal, Coincidence in dental and facial midlines is one of the important goals of orthodontic treatment. However, there is no objective method for obtaining a facial midline. Moreover, the difference in recognition of a facial midline between orthodontists and laypersons is also uncertain. We defined a subjectively determined facial midline as an imaginary facial midline, and we clarified the setting mechanism of it by orthodontists. The purpose of this study is to analyze the difference in recognition of a facial midline between orthodontists and laypersons by conducting the same investigation to laypersons. 97 students of the faculty of liberal arts were chosen as the subject. They were instructed to find the middle point between two predetermined points (research 1) and to draw their own imaginary facial midline in photographs of two adult Japanese without obvious facial asymmetry (research 2). As a result of research 1, we found both groups recognized significantly accurate middle points if the distance was less than 60mm. From research 2, we also found that the standard method of both groups to set the imaginary facial midline was almost same. They both drew it as perpendicular as possible to relatively horizontal lines with attention to some points in the lower part of the nose and the upper lip, or just as an approximate line of those points.

Japanese, Scientific journal, The critical pathway helps to organize patient's care and eliminates variations created by doctors' different preference. In order to establish the critical pathway, we gathered and analyzed data focused on the length of the treatment in each step. The following results were obtained. 1. An average length of the treatment in each step was a. 1.8 mos from the initial examination to diagnosis b. 19.8 mos for the pre-surgical orthodontic treatment c. 5.0 mos for a jaw surgery including d. 11.0 mos for the post-surgical orthodontic treatment 2. The pre-surgical orthodontic treatment varied widely and took the longest time 3. The extraction cases (average; 22.0 mos) significantly needed longer time than the non-extraction cases (average; 16.7 mos) in the pre-surgical orthodontic period These data suggest that the application of the critical pathway to the pre-surgical orthodontic treatment would be more effective and two or more different critical pathways should be established for this period.

Japanese, Scientific journal, A questionnaire survey was carried out to clarify the points regarding metal allergy that attention should be given to when treating orthodontic patients. The subjects were 7 orthodontic patients (1 male and 6 females; mean age, 21.3 years) who had been diagnosed as having metal allergies by patch tests. The following results were obtained. 1. Nickel was the most frequently identified metal showing a positive reaction in patch tests (in half of the patients). Since nickel is frequently used in orthodontic treatment, care should be taken over the selection of material when treating orthodontic patients with metal allergies. 2. All of the patients had other allergy symptoms. Thus, taking detailed histories may lead to the discovery of metal allergies in patients who are not aware of such allergies. 3. Four of the seven patients had symptoms of metal allergy caused by earrings and other such ornaments. Since many orthodontic patients are young women, taking detailed histories and conducting careful observations are important.

Japanese, Scientific journal, In this study, the effects of treatment of anterior maxillary advancement using distraction osteogenesis were investigated. The subjects were three severe skeletal class III patients who needed surgical orthodontic treatment for mandibular retrusion (one female aged 16 years and 5 months of age, one female aged 28 years and 9 months, and one male and 26 years and 3 months at the initial examination). At the initial examination, extra-oral clinical examination revealed concave profiles and intra-oral examination revealed crowding in the upper arches in all patients. In presurgical orthodontic treatment of the maxilla, anterior maxillary advancement was performed using an intraoral appliance a palatal expansion screw from a few days after the maxillary osteotomy. Lateral expansion was performed simultaneously in one case. Anterior maxillary advancement was performed at a rate of 1 mm of advancement per day for seven to nine days. Data were obtained from maxillary dental casts, profile facial photographs and lateral cephalograms before and just after the completion of expansion. Just after the completion of expansion, the upper incisor edges had moved 4.8-9.1 mm anteriorly. In the patient whose palate was also expanded laterally, the inter-premolar width increased to 6.8 mm. It was found that SNA increased 3.51-5.12 degrees, SNB decreased 1.17-0.31 degrees, NSP-A increased 4.4-5.6 mm and U1-SN increased 7.10-11.17 degrees. Anterior maxillary advancement using distraction osteogenesis resulted in creation of sufficient space in the upper arches to cancel the arch length discrepancies in the upper arches. In addition, the concave facial profiles of all patients improved.

Japanese, Scientific journal, A questionnaire survey was carried out to determine the types of inconvenience felt in daily life due to oral injuries caused by fixed orthodontic appliances and to determine the percentages of orthodontic patients who feel such inconveniences and who visit emergency clinics for treatment of the oral injury as well as the relationship between these percentages. The subjects were 64 orthodontic patients who had been fitted with fixed appliances (male/female ratio, 1:3.6; mean age, 23.5±6.2 years; mean treatment period, 2.2±1.3 years). The following results were obtained: 1. There was a greater tendency in male patients than in female patients to either constantly feel inconveniences in daily life due to oral injury or to not feel any inconveniences at all. There was also a greater tendency in male patients than in female patients not to visit emergency clinics for treatment. 2. There appears to be a correlation between the feeling of inconvenience in daily life due to oral injury and visiting an emergency clinic for treatment. 3. The main factors causing the feeling of inconvenience in daily life were difficulty in speaking, irritation and pain. 4. More than half of the patients who did not visit emergency clinics for treatment of oral injury probably have negative or indifferent feelings regarding treatment for the oral injury.

Japanese, Scientific journal, The aim of this study was to determine the utility of a new method for treating oral mucosal injuries caused by fixed appliances on the teeth. In this method, the space between the surface of a tooth and the wings of a bracket is filled using dental cement. The practicality of the new method was investigated by 1)observation of durability of cement in simulation tests on a mannequin used for dentistry training, 2) examination of the mechanical properties of dental cement, and 3)clinicai tests. Although a statistically significant difference was found between the compressive strengths of the two cements used in this study, the times required to fill a space with the cement and to remove the cement were the same. In simulation tests for clinical application, the average time was sufficiently short(about 10 seconds), and the time did not depend on clinical experience or the kind of cement. It was also found that injuries healed within a month after treatment using this method. The new method does not require special skill, special instruments and or special materials, and it can be performed quickly. The results confirmed that the cement used in this method has sufficient durability. Thus, the new method is effective for both prevention and treatment of oral mucosal injuries.

Japanese, Scientific journal, The purpose of this study is to predict the mandibular position following correction of functional anterior crossbite. Multiple regression analyses were carried out using data obtained from lateral cephalograms in the intercuspal and rest positions at the first examination and at an examination after correction of anterior crossbite in 19 patients. The following results were obtained. 1. For Δ SNB", a multiple regression equation (a multiple correlation coefficient : 0.76) was obtained when S・Pog-OP (Upper) , NF-MP, ANB and overbite were used as the explanatory variables. 2. For Δ B", a multiple regression equation (a multiple correlation coefficient : 0.87) was obtained when S・Pog-OP (Upper), ANB, NF-OP (Upper), Δ B (X)' and SNB were used as the explanatory variables. 3. For Δ B (X)", a multiple regression equation (a multiple correlation coefficient : 0.82) was obtained when S*Pog-OP (Upper) , ANB, NF-MP and Δ SNB' were used as the explanatory variables. 4. For Δ B (Y)", a multiple regression equation (a multiple correlation coefficient : 0.39) was obtained when overjet was used as the explanatory variable. The results suggested that it was possible to predict the degree of horizontal change in mandibular position following correction of functional anterior crossbite by the multiple regression equations obtained in this study.

Japanese, Scientific journal, In this study, the recognition to oral injuries in 73 orthodontic patients with fixed appliances (male : female ratio, 1 : 2.7 ; mean age, 23.5 ± 6.2 years ; mean treatment period, 2.2 ± 1.3 years ; mean overbite, 1.1 ± 3.1mm ; mean overjet 1.5 ± 5.2mm) was investigated to determine the relationships between their recognition and the following factors : gender ratio, age, treatment period, overbite, overjet and type of bracket. It was found that the factor that had the greatest effect on recognition was gender. Other factors, except for type of bracket, had little effect. It was also found that the patients could remember the types and the sites of past injuries. In addition, there was tendency to have abrasions in the more anterior segment and stab wounds in the more posterior segment of the dental arch. The results of this study also indicate that no factor alone was the direct cause of any of the injuries and that gender might affect to the recognition of injuries. These findings are of value not only for daily orthodontic practice but also for related and future studies.

Japanese, Scientific journal, Orthodontists sometimes experience cases of breakage of a retainer in the marginal area. The aim of this study was to determine whether the use of glass cloths improves the mechanical properties of polymer for retainers. The glass cloths were silanated before fabrication. All test specimens were 2 x 15 x 40 mm in size. The specimens were divided into three types according to the manner of containment of the glass cloth : without reinforcement (type 1), the cloth in the neutral zone (type 2) and the cloth on the surface (type 3). The results were as follows. 1. The elastic moduli of type 2 and 3 specimens were about 1.3- and 1.4-times larger than that of type 1 specimens, respectively. 2. The flexural strengths of type 2 and 3 specimens were about 1.4- and 1.7-times larger than that of type 1 specimens, respectively. Adequate improvement in transverse strength of the retainer polymer was accomplished simply by placing the glass cloth. This method using biocompatible glass cloth is a simple method for reinforcing resin and is thought to be effective for preventing breakage of retainers.

Japanese, Scientific journal, The purpose of this study was to evaluate the contribution of the new bracket design to the clinical application of esthetic fiber reinforced plastic orthodontic wires(FRP wire). Then, R 0 type only with an extended slot base and R 05, R 1 and R 2 with curvature, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mm radius respectively, at the base were examined for the ability to avoid the shear force exerted by ligatures. The results of the cantilever breaking test showed that the limit of deflection of the FRP wire improved and that the larger radius was more effective. In the cantilever hysteresis test, FRP wires showed adequate elastic recovery, especially in the test with wires immersed in water. It was also clarified from ligated bending test that good elastic recovery and high load-retention could be obtained. From the results of this study, we suggest that the improved brackets would be useful in the clinical application of our FRP wires.

Japanese, Scientific journal, Pitching, the sagittal rotation of the head, causes misrepresentation of a image in the frontal facial photo. Therefore, a certain standard should be established for pitching to obtain proper frontal photos for diagnosis. The purpose of this study was to determine the acceptable range of pitching angles. Linear measurements were carried out using frontal facial photos taken at every 2° angle from +20° to -20° to have a picture that could be regarded to be the same as that in the FH head position (0°). It was found that the lower facial width decreased proportionally with upward transfer of the angle. The upper facial height did not show any significant differences in the range of +12° to -12°. The decreasing rate of mid and total facial height was negligibly small from -20° to 0° but became significantly large from 0° to +20°. Lower facial height decreased proportionally with upward transfer of the angle. It was also found that the upper : mid : lower facial height ratio varied in each picture. On the basis of the results, the acceptable range of pitching angle was determined to be +2° to -2°.

The Journal of Hokkaido Orthodontic Society, 28, 1, 20, 26, Hokkaido Orthodontic Society, 2000, [Peer-reviewed], [Lead author, Corresponding author]
Japanese, Scientific journal, Coincidence in dental and facial midlines is one of the goals of orthodontic treatment. The setting of a facial midline is important to achieve this treatment goal. However, there is no objective method for obtaining a facial midline, and the difference between the cognizance of orthodontists and laypersons is also uncertain. It is therefore important to specify a comparatively accurate facial midline. We defined a subjectively defermined facial midline as an imaginary facial midline, and we tried to elucidate the mechanism of the setting. We tried to limit the areas or structures of a face that we thought to be involved in the setting of an imaginary facial midline. The subjects of this study, 34 orthodontists with 3 years or more experience, were instracted to draw their own imaginary facial midlines in facial photostats of two adult Japanese with facial symmetry. As a result, we found the standard way by which orthodontists set an imaginary facial midline. The standard method is to set the imaginary facial midline so that it is as perpendicular as possible to a relatively horizontal line with attention given to both or either the middle point of the alares and/or the bottom point of the cupid bow as signposts.

Japanese, Scientific journal, It seems that a person recognizes the face of another person by subconsciously determining a subjective facial midline unconsciously. We have defined such a subjectively defermined facial midline as an imaginary facial midline. It appears to be important to understand the ability of human visuognosis of space in order to elucidate the setting mechanism of an imaginary facial midline. In this study, we tried to clarify the ability of visuognosis that is thought to be the setting of an imaginary facial midline, by investigating 34 orthodontists with 3 years or more experience. The results were as follows. 1. The abillities of visuognosis of the orthodontists with the experience over 3 years were eguivalent. 2. Only in the case of ΔX, both the displacement and the variance changed in proportion to the distance between 2 points. 3. The recognition of middle points was significantly accurate if the distance between the 2 points was less than 60 mm. The results of this study are thought to be applicable to human faces.

Japanese, Scientific journal, To realize aesthetic othodontic wires, we have been developing the FRP wires in combination with biocompatible CaO-P_2O_5-SiO_2-Al_2O_3 (CPSA) glass fibers and PMMA matrix by a hot drawing method. These wires are mainly intended to be used for the movement of teeth during the initial stage of treatment. In this study, a photo cure polymerization method was applied to form the rectangular timber with a sufficient torque force for rotation of the teeth. The FRP wire composed of CPSA glass fibers and UDMA matrix showed a sufficient flexural strength. For torsional properties, however, the wire had a much smaller torque compared with that of Co-Cr and Ni-Ti wires. The FRP using dental composite resin for matrix showed a load 4 times of UDMA based FRP wires. The torsional load was increased to 1/2 of Ni-Ti wire. It was found that the fiber content mainly contributes to flexural load while the use of stiff materials such as composite resin for the matrix is much more effective for improving torsional properties.

Japanese, Scientific journal, As far as the dental compensation with skeletal Class III jaw relationship is concerned, researches were carried out on the basis of the lateral cephalograms. However, it is often observed that cases with antero-posterior disharmony also have disharmony of the width of the dental arch. So we think that the dental compensation should not be investigated only by upper and lower incisor but also the lateral teeth. Especially, because canine is the place where curve of the dental arch is most strong, compensatory changes are considered to vary. In the present study dental compensation in treated cases with skeletal Class III jaw relationship was investigated both by model and cephalometric analysis. 1. When compared to Class I molar relationship cases, Class in molar relationship cases showed lingual inclination of lower incisor and distal inclination of lower canine in relation to the occlusal plane. Furthermore, in Class III molar relationship cases either labial inclination of upper canine or lingual inclination of lower canine was observed. 2. As the jaw relationship became worse, occlusal plane became flatter in Class I molar relationship group. But flattening of occlusal plane wasn't enough in Class III molar relationship group. So there was antero-posterior disharmony of upper and lower dental arch. 3. From the above, finally it can be concluded that the position of canine and the inclination of occlusal plane in the establishment of occlusion is an important parameter for diagnosis as well as treatment is concerned.

A multi bracket appliance is one of the most popular orthodontic appliances, however, damage to enamel such as acid treatment (at the time of gluing) and cutting (at the time of removal) has been considered inevitable. To avoid or reduce such damage, we have been devising modification methods for enamel surface and developing adhesives with visibility only when necessary.
Owing to the support by JSPS KAKENHI Grant Number 18K09826, we have succeeded in fabricating urethane-based fluorescent bonding materials with either europium containing nanoparticles or Eu complexes at a laboratory level. Specifically, Y2O3:Eu3+ and Tris(1,3-diphenyl-1,3-propanedionato)(1,10-phenanthroline)Eu3+ were confirmed to be quite effective to make dimethacrylate adhesives fluorescent.

We have been developing transparent composite materials with enough properties such as mechanical properties and so forth comparable with metal orthodontic wires to make the multibracket appliance which is used in orthodontic treatments more esthetically acceptable. We have taken particular note of montmorillonite (MMT), one of the representative layered silicates, as a reinforcing material. Owing to the support by JSPS KAKENHI [Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C)] Grant Number 24593070, we successfully fabricated both poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/silanized organically modified MMT (s-OMMT) composites and poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA)/s-OMMT composites with nanoscale reinforcement architecture. The remarkable results obtained through this study encourage us to make them applicable for transparent fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) orthodontic wires.

We have developed a 3D tongue movement measuring system employing an electromagnetic sensing system that uses five small and lightweight coils. This system was used to measure and compare tongue movements in normal subjects and in skeletal Class III subjects during articuration of five Japanese vowel (/a/, /i/, /u/, /e/ and /o/) sounds. The subject sat in a relaxed posture on a chair, and the subject's head was positioned so that the Frankfurt horizontal plane and floor were approximately parallel. Before commencing the experiment, the subject was given sufficient practice at pronouncing vowel sounds with measurement device in place. The vowel sounds were analyzed using linear predictive coding (LPC), and the frequencies of the first formant (F1) and second formant (F2) of the vowels were calculated. The results were then compared with the results of analysis of tongue movements. The subjects of measuring tongue movement were three normal subjects (3 males) and three skeletal Class III subjects (3 females). And the subjects of analysing vowel sound were 17 skeletal Class III patients (5 males, 12 females) and 13 normal subjects (8 males, 5 females). The results were as followes.1) The frequency of the second formant of /u/ in the skeletal Class III patients was significantly (P<0.01) higher than that in the normal subjects.2) The skeletal class III patients showed compensatory tongue movements to make articulation points by using the rear part of the tongue instead of moving the tongue backward when uttering the closed vowels(/i/,/u/).3) This compensatory tongue movement was effective for uttering /i/ but not for uttering /u/.

The evaluation on the mechanical properties and biocompatibility of the FRP esthetic orthocontic wire for clinincal appoication is the aim of this research. The results are as follows:1. After the FRP wire have been immersed in mechanical properties through water immersion. The deactivating load and elastic recovery in s hysterisis loop decreased much after water immersion. To prevent this, Bis-GMA was coated by R&D method. The FRP with this coating by the method of R&D with dipping speed 1 cm/min., showed sufficient rtention of flesural load (D/L 60-80 %) and good elastic recovery even after 30 days.2. To develop the FRP wires in combination with biocompatible CaO-P_2O_5-SiO_2-Al_2O_3 (CPSA) glass fibers and PMMA matrix by hot drawing method, a photo cure polymerization method was applied to form the rectangular timber with a sufficient torque force. The FRP wire using dental composite resin for matrix showed a torsional load of 1/2 of Ni-Ti wire. This showed that the fiber content mainly contributes to flexural load while the use of stigg materials for the matrix is much more effective for improbing torsional properties.3. To avoid the shear force exerted by ligatures, improved brackets with various radius curvature were evaluated. The limit of deflection of the FRP wire and the recovery of the elastic properties improved with the larger radius curvatures. It was also clarified from ligated bending test that good elastic recovery and high load-retention could be obtained.4. The frictional properties between orthodontic wires and brackets and frictional coefficients were obtained under conditions of single contact plane and double contact planes. The friction properties of FRP wire with brackets were similar to those of metal wires expect for the polycrystalline alumina bracket.
