AI倫理およびカント倫理学を主な専門領域として研究しています。
1．AI・ロボット倫理における関係論的アプローチ
現在はとりわけ、AI・ロボット倫理における関係論的アプローチを中心的な主題とし、人間と人工主体とのあいだに成立する関係性の倫理的意義を検討しています。AIやロボットを単なる機能的な道具としてではなく、人間の実践、感情、社会的関係を変容させる存在として捉え、その関わり方の規範的含意を明らかにすることを目指しています。
近年は、David Gunkel、Mark Coeckelbergh、Anna Puzio、Kamil Mamakらとの国際的な共同研究を通じて、倫理を性質ベースの規範判断から関係ベースの現象学へと捉え直す試みに取り組んでいます。また、その理論的発展のために、和辻哲郎の風土論をはじめとする日本哲学の知見にも注目しています。
2．生成AI・デジタル複製技術をめぐる倫理
AI倫理の関連テーマとして、生成AIを用いて論文を書くことの道徳的（非）許容性、デジタル複製技術とグリーフケアをめぐる倫理的問題、人間とAI/ロボットとの親密な関係性の倫理にも取り組んでいます。
これらの研究では、AIをめぐる新たな技術実践が、執筆、ケア、親密性といった人間の重要な営みにどのような変化をもたらすのかを検討し、その望ましさと懸念の両面から考察しています。
3. カントの徳理論研究
AI倫理研究と並行して、カント倫理学の観点から、徳ある人間のあり方と、感情が道徳的人格の形成において果たす役割を研究しています。とくに、尊敬、愛、共感といった感情に注目し、カント倫理学において感情がどのような積極的役割を担いうるのかを検討しています。
近年は、カントの「有徳な人は快活である」という主張に基づき、義務に拘束される道徳的主体でありながら、徳ある行為者は実践に伴う不快を媒介として快を実現するという Conflict Model of Kantian Eudaimonism を提唱しています。
4．学際的・共同研究プロジェクト
このほか、プロジェクトベースの研究として、地域創成に向けた人間知・脳・AI融合アプローチに関する開発および理論研究にも従事しています。哲学・倫理学の知見を、AI研究や地域社会に関わる実践的課題へ接続することにも取り組んでいます。

This paper examines the pleasant state of virtue in Kantian eudaimonism. I investigate how Kantian virtue can be eudaimonistic for finite agents, for whom conflict is never eliminated. I argue that the pleasant dimension of virtue is realized not through harmony between reason and sensibility but as a pleasant state that is structurally dependent on a negative sensible moment of displeasure for finite agents. Drawing on Kant’s account of rational feelings, I show how virtue’s pleasantness does not erase conflict but is instead intelligible within a non-harmonizing conflict model of Kantian eudaimonism – one that finite agents inevitably face. - After the death of the author: generative AI and the ethics of academic evaluation

英語, 研究論文（学術雑誌）, In this paper, I explore the grounds for the moral treatment of robots by proposing a new relational approach inspired by Japanese animistic thought. Traditionally, two major approaches have dominated discussions on the moral treatment of robots: (1) The properties approach, which bases moral treatment on intrinsic properties such as consciousness and sentience (Sparrow in Ethics Inf Technol 6(4):203–213, 2004; Bryson in Wilks (ed) Close engagements with artificial companions: key social, psychological, ethical and design issues, John Benjamins Publishing Company, Amsterdam, 2010; Mosakas in AI Soc 36(2):429–443, 2021; DeGrazia in Perspect Biol Med 65(1):73–88, 2022), and (2) the relational approach, which bases moral treatment on the appearance of robots within relationships (Coeckelbergh in Philos Technol 27(1):61–77, 2014, Coeckelbergh in Minds Mach. 31:337–360, 2021, Coeckelbergh in Ethics Inf Technol 25(3):44, 2023; Gunkel in Robot rights, MIT Press, Cambridge, 2018, Gunkel in Loh and Loh (eds) Social robotics and the good life: the normative side of forming emotional bonds with robots. transcript Verlag, Bielefeld, 2022). Building on the foundational work on the relational approach of Coeckelbergh and Gunkel, I explore the potential and implications for expanding the relational approach by introducing an animistic understanding of the mind. To do so, I adopt an animistic perspective, distinguishing between two forms of animism: mind-reading animism and mind-infusing animism. The distinction between these approaches lies in their understanding of the “mind.” Mind-reading animism interprets the mind as an inherent, static property, making moral treatment dependent on human-like properties. In contrast, mind-infusing animism, drawing on Ōmori Shōzō’s philosophical view, interprets the mind as dynamically constructed through interaction. Rather than focusing on static, human-like properties, this approach emphasizes the relational process in which robots are infused with a mind through interaction. By framing the moral treatment of robots within this relational dynamic, mind-infusing animism provides a new relational framework for evaluating the moral treatment of robots. Finally, while mind-infusing animism provides a meaningful contribution to advancing relational approaches, we point out that it also faces limitations. - Kantianism for the Ethics of Human–Robot Interaction

英語, 研究論文（学術雑誌）, This paper explores the implications of applying Kantianism, traditionally focused on human moral agents, to the ethics of human–robot interaction. Kantian approaches have often been regarded as ineffective for assessing whether non-human entities like robots deserve moral consideration. However, this paper argues that Kantian resources provide more substantial support for the moral consideration of robots and the value of human–robot relationships than is commonly assumed. The analysis proceeds in three steps. First, the paper examines Kant’s doctrine of ends in themselves, which has traditionally viewed robots solely as instrumental means. Second, it discusses a Kantian perspective on indirect duties, emphasizing how human interactions with robots influence human virtue and moral feeling. This framework justifies norms against cruel behavior toward robots to protect one’s moral character but remains insufficient as it only prescribes “avoiding cruelty insofar as it affects one’s character.” Finally, to address this limitation, the paper introduces a Kantian perspective grounded in the duty to promote others’ happiness as an obligatory end. 英語, 研究論文（学術雑誌）, This study explores how people should live their lives to make them meaningful, adopting a Kantian perspective. Specifically, this paper focuses on Kant's theory of virtue and argues that we can make our lives meaningful by living ethically. In the context of the philosophy of meaning in life, this view aligns with a form of objectivism, which holds that life becomes meaningful through the achievement of moral value in accordance with objective norms. Additionally, this paper incorporates elements of subjectivism into the objectivist framework, suggesting that living an ethical life makes life meaningful, emphasizing that subjective satisfaction derived from following moral norms is combined with a meaningful life. Drawing on Kant’s argument that a virtuous agent experiences a sense of self-satisfaction as a reward for leading an ethical life, this approach is termed the Kantian hybrid theory. カント生誕300年を迎えた2024年には、多くのカント哲学に関するイベントが開催されました。
しかし、これからのカント研究の意義は、記念の年が終わった後も変わらず問い続けられるべきものです。そこで、私たちは「300＋1年」となる2025年、北海道大学を拠点にカントの連続ワークショップを企画しました。本ワークショップは、「感情」「利他行為」「応用可能性」の三つをテーマに、現代におけるカント哲学の重要性を探る場となることを目指します。若手研究者を中心とした議論を通じて、これからもカントを読み続ける意味を共に考える機会となることを願っています。
