Open innovation, a collaborative innovation process with external companies and organizations, has been attracting great attentions from academic researchers as well as business practitioners. In this study, we tried to clarify the reality of such open innovation activity of Japanese companies in comparison with US and European counterparts and to explore when and how it leads high innovation performance. In the analysis, we paid attention to the interaction of inbound and outbound process of open innovation, the role of affiliated company which can be interpreted as an intermediate organization between inside and outside the company, the balance between internal and external technology sourcing for product innovation, and so on. Exploring these issues which have not been examined enough in previous studies is expected to be an originality of our study.

In this research project over four years, we analyzed the process of strategic collaboration between multi-sectors including nonprofits, governments and businesses.
First, we developed an original framework,"collaborative window model", according to the review of the previous studies. The collaborative window model is a useful framework to describe and analyze the dynamic aspect of the process of collaboration. Next, we made seven in-depth case studies of pioneering strategic multi-sector collaborative projects which had succeeded in creating pluralistic social values. Finally, we analyzed the seven multi-sector collaborative project mentioned above by using our model and presented 18 propositions and 7 practical implications for collaborative activists on the basis of the results of the analysis.
In summary, we developed the original framework,"collaborative window model" for the analysis of multi-sector collaboration and indicated its effectiveness through the case studies.

Value creation through strategic multi-sector collaboration which was resolved by our research project is one of the viable methods for the challenging solution of social issues in the twenty first century. Now rapidly wide spreading strategic multi-sector collaboration has great potential for pluralistic social value creation. In the result of three-year research project, we made seven in-depth case studies of pioneering strategic multi-sector collaborative projects and we presented the essence of value creation through the collaborations. Our conclusions are presented as 18 propositions. These 18 propositions are classified into four groups, which are propositions on 1) participants specification and "ba" setting, 2) agenda setting and solution specification, 3) willingness of organizations and activities and 4) coming down and development of the collaboration.
The significance of this research project is following. First, the framework the name of which is "collaborative windows model" for analyzing value creation through strategic multi-sector collaboration was developed. Second, the essence of strategic value creation through multi-sector collaboration was presented. Finally, practical implications for value creation through strategic multi-sector collaboration are presented.

This research has aimed at the clarification of "Strategic partnership" in every country in the world for the past 15 years based on the strategic intent among NPOs, governments and firms. An extremely important "Strategic partnership" for the society of this 21st century was clarified from the aspect that centered on the management research theoretically and empirically.
First, "Collaborative Window model" that was a theoretical frame to analyze strategic partnership was presented with the first thesis. Second, we made a case study of PMF (Pacific Music Festival) in the second thesis, case studies of Kiritappu Wetland Trust and Hokkaido Green Fund in the third theses and case studies of JHADS and Japan Platform in the fourth thesis, respectively.
As a result of the series of case studies above, 20 propositions all including the following four propositions were extracted. Proposition 1: Two or more important participants who belong to the different sectors are continuously participating in the strategic partnership. Proposition 2: An important participant whose motivation is the highest alternates with the time passage. Proposition 3: Necessary time for the achievement of the strategic partnership is provided for by the amount of the capital resorce that the important participant can use at first. Proposition 4: When an activist sets connected places (Ba) and uses it in heavy layers of the plural, the strategic partnership is promoted. Proposition 5: When the solution to obtain (1) the technical practicability, (2) the cost in the tolerance, and (3) the citizen's connivance is generated and made the strategic partnership is promoted.

According to our three-year research project execution plans, our study was made as follows.
Firstly, intensive literature survey on the field of management strategy, business systems and business models and strategic partnership and strategic collaboration was made in order to understand the relationship among existing management theories. At the same time, tentative framework for empirical research was explored. Besides, the pilot study field (specific names of the firms) was selected. Secondly, to understand partly the actual/practical conditions of the dynamism through business model reformation, partly collecting second-level data and documents and exchanging the knowledge and information, a small-sized pre-research was realized. Moreover, each investigator embarked pilot research in charge of one or two specific business case(s). These series of actions led to confirmations and sophistications of our research framework. Hypothesis building also went side by side with above research activities. Thirdly, as a result of these pilot studies, specification of the semi-structured interview research (qualitative research) designs was made. In addition to this, each investigator actually visited the field in charge in order to build favorable relationship between informants and/or interviewees. Fourthly, according to the results of literature survey which was mentioned above, a framework for quantitative empirical research was developed and improved. Also, each investigator began his/her specific case study of which he/she was in charge in more detailed basis. Fifthly, we exchanged views with researchers about art and science or organization concerned with Kyushu University department of economics, Hosei University school of business administration, Munich University and Strasbourg university because more domestic and abroad case studies were made.
Based on the results above and integrated all kinds survey result in year two, a model presentation, as well as theory construction about the state of the effective business method was tried. Sharing of a research achievement and theories by collaboration held an intensive study workshop by study member participation by the process of the integration of a research achievement, and aimed at an offer of a practicing implication. We think that it became possible to produce the study output which jumped over accumulation of the former study in a specialized field of a study member in a variety by the good meaning after we worked on a study multilaterally based on the interest different for a short while respectively as a background.

We conducted the theoretical and empirical study which concerns strategic solution for social problems and organizational performance of NPO. We established NPO (voluntary group) in order to investigate this research topic based on action research. Summary of our research results are as floows :
1 We know that we need to create many ventures in order to activate regional industry. We tried to incubate ventures by forming Ba, because a few prior studies showed the relationship between regional industry activation and Ba. Ba is a kind of network in which major actors in a region interact each other with common agenda. This study indicates that the existence of effective Ba is critical factor for creating ventures. NPO is a kind of concrete form ob Ba.
2 Whether Ba is effective or not depends on not only agenda setting but also competences of members of Ba. Competences of members conceptualize in terms of willingness to collaborate and capability.
3 Ba can realize high performance if there is much trust among capable members. Therefore, trust is critical factor in order to activate Ba.
4 Because incubating ventures need a variety of competence, intense interaction among members with diverse competence in Ba is critical requisites for success
