This research explores the capacitive humidity sensing properties of CuO ceramic, selected for its simplicity as an oxide and ease of fabrication, in addition to its remarkable dielectric properties. The CuO sample was fabricated by sintering at 980 °C for 5 h. A microstructure with a relative density of 88.9% was obtained. X-ray diffraction confirmed the formation of a pure CuO phase. Broadband dielectric spectroscopy revealed that the observed giant dielectric properties at room temperature (RT) were attributed to extrinsic effects, including the internal barrier layer capacitor and sample-electrode contact effects. A key focus of this study was to examine the giant dielectric properties of CuO ceramic as a function of relative humidity (RH) at RT and frequencies of 102 and 103 Hz. It was observed that the capacitance of CuO continuously increased with rising RH levels, ranging from 30 to 95%. Notably, the maximum hysteresis errors were constrained to 2.3 and 3.3% at 102 and 103 Hz, respectively. Additionally, the CuO ceramic demonstrated very fast response and recovery times, approximately 2.8 and 0.95 min, respectively. The repeatability of the humidity response of the capacitance was also established. Giant dielectric behavior and electrical properties of monovalent cation/anion (Li+, F−) co‐doped CaCu3Ti4O12 ceramics prepared by a solid‐state reaction route were systematically investigated. Substitution of Li+ and F− led to a significantly enlarged mean grain size. A reduced loss tangent (tanδ ~0.06) with the retainment of an ultra‐high dielectric permittivity (ε′ ~7.7‐8.8 × 104) was achieved in the co‐doped ceramics, while the breakdown electric field and nonlinear coefficient of CaCu3Ti4O12 ceramics were increased by co‐doping with (Li+, F−). The variations in nonlinear electrical properties and giant dielectric response, as well as the dielectric relaxation, were well explained by the Maxwell‐Wagner polarization model for an electrically heterogeneous microstructure, in which a Schottky barrier height at the grain boundaries (GBs) was formed. ε′ was closely correlated to the GB capacitance. Significantly decreased tanδ value and enhanced nonlinear properties were related to a significant increase in the GB resistance, which was attributed to the significantly increased potential barrier height and conduction activation energy at the GBs. Japanese, Scientific journal, Use of the Classroom Response System (CRS) device called "Clicker" is wide spread among universities in the United States and is now considered an essential tool for teaching. The clicker is introduced for the teaching of a physics class in Hokkaido University, which was its first use in Japan. We will explain the function of the clicker and consider the reason why it is widely used in teaching in the US. 量子力学の遷移確率計算で基礎となる「フェルミ黄金率」に対する補正項として,量子波束の性質に基づく遷移定数成分 (Pd補正項)を提案しその存在を検証する実験・理論研究を行っている。3つの量子電磁力学過程を用いた実験および理論研究を行っている (1) 陽電子消滅実験では,前年度の中期間測定により装置の詳細な不具合を洗い出し,長期間測定を行った。補正項の信号が期待される信号領域をデータ上でマスクし,長期間測定の解析を行た。実データをもとに信号領域に生じる背景事象数の推定を行った。(2) X線コンプトン散乱実験では,複数方位のAl単結晶のコンプトン散乱X線エネルギースペクトルの測定結果に関して、高運動量成分はAl単結晶の結晶方位に依存しない現象であることがわかった。フェルミ黄金律補正項の寄与の可能性があるため、理論計算による検討を開始した。 (3) 光のラマン散乱実験においては,サイズの異なる3種類のガラス微粒子を測定試料として用い高分解能タンデム式ファブリ-ペロー干渉分光計で広帯域レイリー散乱スペクトルを測定した。フェルミ黄金律補正項で理論予想される冪乗則に従ったレイリーウイングが測定された。(4) 理論研究では,量子力学の基本的物理量である状態遷移の確率を規格化波動関数(波束)で計算し,従来の平面波による計算では不定であった定数項まで含めて求めた。この遷移確率は,従来の確率にはない性質をもち,従来の範囲を超えた領域と分野に適用でき,従来の確率で説明・理解が困難であったミクロからマクロまでの現象の理解を可能にする。

量子力学の遷移確率計算で基礎となる「フェルミ黄金率」に対する補正項として,量子波束の性質に基づく遷移定数成分 (Pd補正項)を提案しその存在を検証する実験・理論研究を行っている。3つの量子電磁力学過程を用いた実験および理論研究を行った。(1) 陽電子消滅実験に関しては先行研究を凌ぐ測定感度向上にむけた装置改良を進めてきた。陽電子線源の強度を上げたことによるパイルアップ事象を効率的に取り除く機構の導入と検証を行ってきた。実験室の環境放射線を長時間測定し背景事象への寄与を評価した。(2) X線コンプトン散乱実験では,Al単結晶のコンプトン散乱X線エネルギースペクトルを測定した。理論計算と比較した結果、高運動量成分の計測数が理論計算より多かった。これはフェルミ黄金律補正項の寄与の可能性がある。(3) 光のラマン散乱実験においては,フェルミ黄金律補正項に由来した散乱問題を検証するため高性能半導体励起固体レーザーを導入し光学系の構築を行った。先ず標準試料の高分解能スペクトルを測定し構築した光学系の評価を行った。(4) 理論研究では、量子力学の基本的物理量である状態遷移の確率を規格化波動関数(波束)で計算し、従来の平面波による計算では不定であった定数項まで含めて求めた。この遷移確率は、従来の確率にはない性質をもち、従来の範囲を超えた領域と分野に適用でき、従来の確率で説明・理解が困難であったミクロからマクロまでの現象の理解を可能にする。

我々は本課題の目標を達成するために(1)バンドエンジニアリング及び(2)ドメインエンジニアリングの二つの観点からHfO2系強誘電体の特性と関連の大きいパラメータの探索を行った。また、作製した試料について電気特性及び光学特性の二つの面から評価を進めた。
バンドエンジニアリングからのアプローチではパルスレーザー堆積法(PLD法)を用いて薄膜試料の成膜を進めている。La0.7Sr0.3MnO3膜を下部電極層として成膜したSrTiO3(110)基板上にエピタキシャルHf0.5Zr0.5O2膜及びYドープHfO2膜を成膜することに成功した。現在、これらの試料に複数金属元素を共添加することでバンド構造を制御する手法について研究を進めている。また、バンドエンジニアリングに関する研究の一環として室温で酸素欠陥を低減する手法についても研究を進めており、一定の成果が出ている。
ドメインエンジニアリングからのアプローチでは、スパッタ法を用いて成膜したHf0.5Zr0.5O2膜のポーリング時のリーク電流とポーリング後のリーク電流の差異に関する研究を行った。この研究の結果、ポーリング後のリーク電流がプール=フレンケル型電流なのに対し、ポーリング前の電流は非プール=フレンケル型電流ことが明らかになった。この結果はポーリング時に酸素欠陥の再配置が生じていることを示唆しており、HfO2系強誘電体の特性に酸素欠陥が大きな役割を果たしていることを示唆している。
また、膜厚30nmと50nmのHf0.5Zr0.5O2薄膜のラマン散乱スペクトルの温度依存性を観測した結果、膜厚30nmの試料では約800K、膜厚50nmの試料では750Kでフォノン異常が観測された。この異常は強誘電体相転移を示唆するものである。さらに、Hf0.5Zr0.5O2薄膜の厚さが薄くなるにつれて転移温度は高温側にシフトする傾向が観察された。

In the present study, the crossover from the ferroelectric phase transition to the ferroelectric nano-ordering phenomenon and the fractal nature (self-similarity) in the nano-ordering process were investigated from the viewpoint of phonon dynamics by minimizing ferroelectric crystals to nanometer size. The temperature dependence of the broadband spectra mainly due to Raman susceptibility and the hyper-Rayleigh scattering spectra due to the presence of a 2nd-order nonlinear susceptibility were observed in high-quality lead titanate nanocrystals and barium titanate nanocrystals prepared by supercritical hydrothermal synthesis using a high-resolution broadband light scattering spectroscopy, as well as the size dependence of ferroelectric nanocrystalline particles. The relationship between ferroelectric nano-ordering and fractal nature was clarified by spectral analysis.

High-resolution broadband light scattering spectroscopy and second harmonic generation (SHG) measurement were performed in barium titanate nanocrystals prepared by supercritical hydrothermal synthesis, in order to elucidate the mechanism of a novel ferroelectric transition derived from nanostructures. Temperature dependence of the observed broadband spectra in the nanocrystals of barium titanate shows a characteristic self-similarity. The results of the broadband spectra in the nanocrystals of barium titanate indicate that the ferroelectric nano-ordering is accompanied with anomalies of the hierarchical phonon behavior and SHG intensity, which is not in the bulk system.

For the observation of the dynamical property of the quantum fluctuations, utilizing a newly designed optical cryostat available with intensive incident radiation at ultra-low temperature, we have established an ultra-low temperature spectroscopic system of a wide dynamic range over 0~10^<11-12> Hz by combination of the time- and frequency domains. A theoretical investigation of the mass-effect on formation of the long-range ferroelectric order has been numerically given by the self-consistent phonon approximation.

酸素欠損型六方晶BaTiO_3の巨大誘電率発生のメカニズムを解明するため、酸素欠損以外の方法で、Ba^<2+>を一部La^<3+>で置換する方法でTi^<3+>を生成させるアプローチにより、巨大誘電率を有する六方晶Ba_<1-x>La_xBaTiO_3単結晶の作製に成功した。Ti^<3+>の量はLa^<3+>の添加量により正確に規定されるため、巨大誘電応答とTi^<3+>量との定量的相関関係を明らかにした。さらに、実用化に向けた誘電率制御のプロセスを確立するため、酸素拡散率の温度依存性を測定した

Phase transition and its control by external stimulation have attracted much attention because of not only for basic research but also for wide applications. In particular, sensitive response to external stimulations including light can be extended in the cooperative system close to phase transition point. However, many previous works have focused mainly on organic strongly correlated electron systems. An exploration of new system for a photoinduced phase transition is important subject for further research progress. Recently, in the quantum paraelectric perovskites, SrTiO3 and KTaO3, an anomalous increase of dielectric constant has been observed as a new photoinduced cooperative phenomenon. In the present study we investigate extremely low frequency Raman spectra under UV excitation on perovskites and bismuth-layered perovskites to clarify the dynamical property on photoinduced cooperative phenomena of the quantum paraelectrics and ferroelectrics. In this study we obtained the following conclusions.
1. A perfect softening of the ferroelectric mode has been observed in the isotope-induced ferroelectric SrTi18O3 by a high-resolution technique using a Sandercock-type tandem Fabry-Perot interferometer. The mechanism of the phase transition is concluded to be an ideal displacive-type with perfect softening. From the difference between the soft mode behavior of quantum paraelectric SrTi16O3 and ferroelectric SrTi18O3, the photoinduced cooperative phenomenon observed in quantum paraelectrics should originate in a vibronic coupling between the ferroelectric soft mode and a photoinduced state.
2. An appearance of new central peak related with a photoinduced state and an anomalous instability of the soft mode behavior were observed in layered perovskite oxides by the high-resolution light scattering technique. The obtained results are the first report of the Raman scattering spectra that indicate the existence of photoinduced state. Further systematical investigation using the high resolution light scattering technique will discover a new class of a quantum ferroelectric cooperative phenomenon.

We concentrated to elucidate the relation between the quantum fluctuations and the macroscopic order in the quantum paraelectric and ferroelectric crystals. The specimen were the quantum paraelectric strontium titanate SrTi^<16>O_3(STO16) and its oxygen isotope exchanged crystal SrTi(^<18>O_x^<16>O_<1-x>)_3(STO18-x), where x=0.23,0.32 and 0.89. The exchange concentration of the oxygen isotope more than 33% (x_c) from ^<16>O to ^<18>O in strontium titanate induces the ferroelectric phase in the typical quantum paraelectric STO16 as discovered by Itch et al.(1999). The spectra of the ferroelectric soft Eu mode in STO16 and STO18-x have been observed in the ultra-low temperature region down to milli-Kelvin. The nominally Raman inactive Eu mode spectra in the centro-symmetric phase were observed as a function of temperature for each of the crystals.
The following two conclusions are obtained ; (1)In STO-89 crystal where the quantum fluctuation is completely depressed by the mass effect of the isotope oxygen, the soft Eu mode can soften completely to zero frequency (complete fireezing) at the ferioelectric phase transition point associated with the less damping vibration than the ordinary other ferroelectrics, where the heavily over-damped spectra of soft mode have been reported as a central peaks. In the case of STO-89, the role of the quantum fluctuations seems to be coherently depression of the damping of the soft mode vibration via the coupling between the soft modes and quantum fluctuations. (2)For the specimen STO-23 and STO-32, the ferroelectric phase transition does not take place because the concentration of both crystals is lower than the critical concentration x_c=0.33. In these crystal, the softening behavior of the Eu mode is confirmed by the observation of the locally symmetry breaking region caused by the inhomogeneity of the concentration of ^<18>O, though it does not show any softening to the zero frequency. In this case, the role of the quantum fluctuation is to prevent the occurrence of the long-range order even in the ultra low temperature region.

本年度は光誘起相転移物質として優れた物性を示す無機・有機結晶の物質探索をおこない光誘起相転移機構の解明をおこなうことを目的とし引き続き研究を遂行した。本研究では強誘電強弾性相転移を示すロッシェル塩(RS)と前年度顕著な光誘起効果を報告した常誘電強弾性相転移を示す水素結合系結晶KD_3(SeO_3)_2(DKTS)の二つの物質に注目し、UVフェムト秒パルスレーザーを励起光として照射することにより転移点近傍で現れる光誘起効果の物理的機構を解明した。両物質は対称中心の有無という点で大きく異なり、(DKTSには対称中心があるがRSにはない。)この対称性に起因した電気光学効果の相違からそれぞれの相転移において異なる光誘起効果の観測が期待される。
レーザー屈折光強度測定によりそれぞれの特徴的な光誘起効果が測定された。まずDKTSの屈折光強度の温度依存性はUV光励起をおこなうことによりTc以上の温度領域で屈折光強度の減衰が温度上昇に対し著しく小さくなるのに反してRSではTc以下で大きな屈折光強度の減少が測定される。DKTSに関する結果は光照射によりTc以上の温度領域に於いても強弾性ドメインが誘起されていることを示す。一方、RSでは光照射によりTc以下でドメイン壁が減少することを示す。さらにDKTSの屈折光強度の温度依存性には光照射による顕著なメモリー効果が測定された。以上の結果を考慮しバンド輸送モデルの立場から測定された光誘起効果を考察すると、強弾性ドメインもしくは強誘電性ドメインが形成された結晶中へUV光照射をおこなうことで励起電荷に起因した空間電場が形成され電歪効果を介してドメインが光誘起されると考察される。以上のことから本研究により強弾性ドメインや強誘電性ドメインを光制御できる可能性を示唆する点で極めて重要であり基礎物理学と応用物理学の両面で重要な知見を与えるものである。
